IZZYGIRL save my Corvairs..

Never seen the mouse. I was sitting in the little room off of my garage. When I come down to work on something I always bring my shop dog. A little 11.5 pound female Mini-Dachshund. Well today I was watching the Steelers in my little room. Izzygirl done her normal thing. Headed out in the garage to smell everything and maybe take a crap for me to clean-up. Next thing I hear is her barking like the world was coming to an end. Seems a mouse or two decided they would winter in the engine of my 65 140 corsa vert. I jacked it up and dropped the two lowers shrouds. Cleaned out the mouse house. Since they were off, I cleaned them up and painted them. I'll put them back on a day this week. Have to figure out how the defeat the mouse or two. Can't set traps or poison . The little dog would get into them,

Put the traps in an area the dog can't get to them.
I've been having rat/mouse issues lately. Normally I use peanut butter and honey to bait the traps and they go nuts over it. These are smarter. They won't touch it. Anyone have any ideas on good bait? I'm using regular spring mouse traps.

I keep one of my cars in a "Car Jacket" which is essentially a large Zip Lock Bag.
It opens up like a sleeping bag, drive the vehicle onto it.
Place the desiccant packs in and around the vehicle.
Put a good car cover on the vehicle then pull the Car Jacket up over your vehicle and zip it closed.
So far, I have had no issues with anything finding it's way into the bag.

NOTE:
The attached photo is not of my specific Carjacket, but is one identical to it.
I got it off of another car site I frequent associated with one of my other cars.

Joel, if they are used traps,
I would try THOROUGHLY washing your traps.
Get the scent of previous mice and death off of them.
I have been quite successful with just used plain ole peanut butter, no honey.
I can imagine that the Mix is twice as intoxicating to those little sweet-toothed critters!

I had used the same traps for years very successfully and never washed them. I thought of that and bought new traps but no luck. I even used gloves so my scent wouldn't be on them.
Previously the peanut butter honey mix would catch them almost as fast as I could bait the traps. I think these are rats and not mice as previous infestations so I got some big traps.
A friend told me that caramel works better. I need to try that.

Find the holes they are getting into the garage with. Seal them up. Use steel wool to pack the holes. I used the bucket with water trap. A rotating trap on top with food in center got them interested. They climb up, go across the the rotating shaft and their weight rolls them into their final bath. 3 inches of water in 5 gallon pail. Set out bucket at night.

I use Cab Fresh to keep them away when I had the visitors. After I sealed up my wood floor garage and eliminated the current residents, no further issues.

We have recently had a black feral male cat befriend us.

Skin and bones before my wife started feeding him.

Ground squirrel, gofer, and mouse problems gone.

Probably abandon because he is really friendly.

His right ear tip is clipped so he's been fixed.

Pretty sure Midnight is a traditional Burmese.

I did kill one in a 5 gallon bucket of oil. No bait or anything. He just went for a swim.
Is that bucket something you made?

For a minute there I thought you painted the mice. LOL

I use these, I don't fold them, just lay them flat. Between the two houses the car and the RV its a constant challenge. Between the farm cats, the ferrell cats, the hawks and our Brittany its a wonder its a problem, but it is. I put these in the basement, the garage, the car the RV at places the the dog won't get into them. They are cheap and they work. We had a whole family last week. They also, catch a lot of bugs and spyders.

You might want to try putting the baited trap under an upside down old milk crate.
Put a heavy weight on top so the dog can't tip it over.
The mice will have no trouble crawling through the crate if the holes/slots are more than 3/4".

The bucket trap I made from direction off the internet. I used a bucket I had in storage. My bucket was an old 5 gallon paint bucket. Next time I will get a smaller 3 gallon bucket. A polished wood dowel worked on mine with finish nails for axles. It was from a broken broken wood bar stool. Walk ramp was a piece of 1 x 4 ripped to 1 3/4". It was angled at top and bottom to better mate to floor and bucket. I grooved the top of the bucket for the axle nails. Or I will just buy the ready made one. Cheap enough.

Touch-n-seal brand spray foam sealant makes a Mouse Control edition to their line I found at Home Depot for $10. Sealed up every hole and crack in my shops with just a quick spirt. The insecticide foam will kill them when they try to gnaw through it. Worked great for me and no traps to empty. Best of luck.

I've found that peppermint oil keeps them away. Spray around the walls of the garage and around what you don't want them around. They hate it !

That helps a lot, I saturate cotton balls and place them in the lower compartment of the motor home.

Surprised your dog didn't kill the mice. We always had dachshunds growing up. All were excellent mousers (and mole killers). The smartest we had was Fritz. If there was a mouse in the house we would just point where it was last seen and say, "Mouse!". I don't remember any escaping and the kills were very clean.

While not practical for everyone.... garage chickens make great mousers.

I didn't know chickens killed mice. Ours haven't that I've noticed. The biggest thing I've seen them with was a small frog.
