It is a pretty inconsistent problem between all the different heads isn't it. I sometimes wonder if the quality of the factory seat installations varied from day to day or maybe the castings had issues too.

Certainly not me. Of course a deeper seat is better. Goes without saying it will have a larger interference area. I was just saying that I would not be scared by a discussion of dropped valve seats. Thousands of Corvairs made, millions of miles driven in Corvairs and not everyone has dropped a valve seat. Statement was made that we only have valve seats that have dropped and those that have not dropped yet.
Yes these are now 50 yr old machines. Still does not mean we should drive them in constant worry that we are going to drop a valve seat or any other failure. People who fear a breakdown should not drive antiques (or British automobiles).

That's right, so much other stuff to brake, so little time. Since 1966, I dropped one seat on my turbo.
