Hopefully Our New 'Race Prepped' '60 Corvair Sedan Roller
Posted by: The Californian ()
Date: November 07, 2019 07:04AM

Now that we're (Dad and I) Corvair owners we would like to be treated with a little more respect!smiling smiley

I know.........You earn respect. Just kidding around.

Agreed to get it sight unseen so we HAVE NO PICTURES OF IT.So please don't ask.

It comes with a rusty '60 Corvair complete to make one car out of.

Coupe is a 'roller'.No engine.

Might show up with it at next Pancake Toss in Palm Springs with it dusted off and on a trailer. We work slow here.Slow but sure!

I like to call it the Pancake Toss because I am allowed about two pancakes a month because of health reasons. That and one Mickey D's $1.39 Value menu double cheeseburger.'Oh.What a feeling!'

Anyhow. We thought and bought! '60 Corvair it is!

'65-69 are for rich folk.Us poor people will just have to make do with Hot Rodding's cast off's or passed over.

This is what I have been told about the coupe.

It has been lightened.Might have said interior removed.

It has lexan windows.Don't know if it includes side windows.

That is about it.

Going to see about saving the 4 door.

Been told Extend soaks into rust and stops it.

Then bondo it like we did to Studebaker GT Hawk in high school.

Long as we do not represent it as a rust free car if we sell it I do not see a problem with it.

Love that cantilever roof 4 door's looks.Very early 60's!

So what did you buy? The first post says a race prepped car with no motor. Any more details?

I have been driving Corvairs my entire life, I learned to drive in a Corvair at age 8, My father was a GM Corvair mechanic, We lived in the Country, I have Beat the crap out of EM Corvairs my entire life, I have ripped though the desert, went off jumps, slid them sideways and done berm shots at speed as a daily Routine for years, I have beat more Corvairs to death than most people have even driven them, I took a Late model around a motocross track and jumped the double jump and landed so hard the rear shocks broke the mounts and went through the rear deck lid, the only thing I never did was roll one going around a corner, I did roll a VW bug and a Ford Falcon, IMO the Corvair is a way better car than most cars of the era, You need to quit reading Ralph's bogus book! Here is a pic of me as a child, take a look at my face, pondering ways to destroy a Corvair in my near future!drinking smiley

No test drive in our little coupe at the Pancake Toss next year for you!smiling smiley

You can look and ask how we get it to go so fast all you want but no drivee!

I will ask for pictures but I can't be a nuisance.

Do want to see what he means by 'rusty' for the 4 door.

I have 3 Bob, the yellow one is for Autocross and the black one for Road racing, I have another one that was going to be a Land speed car but will now be another road racing car, My name "Motohead" was given to me in 1982 by my friends because I raced Motocross every weekend for years, 45 to be exact, and I still ride dirt bikes, Also, I Was a mechanic / test rider for Team Honda in the 80's, I have worked for Goodyear racing for over 30 years, I helped build custom Hyabusa powered Go carts for a series that topped almost 200 mph, I have Also worked as a mechanic for the Andretti's and various other Race teams though out the years, I have built everything from a Go cart to a Indy car, so tell me, Am I still not qualified to comment on your post's? smoking smiley

Here is a pic of the tube chassis Go cart that was clocked at about 189 on the back straight at willow, also a fleet of cars I maintained while working for PM Performance, A 2005 Indy car and 2 formula Mazda's, This is at California speedway, I can post racing pics all day. Bob, If you want to build a race car out of a Corvair then do it, there are a lot of guys here with good advice willing to help you, but you need to start off with the basics first, also never under estimate who you might be talking to on this board, there are a lot of pretty smart guys that know a thing or 2 about Racing a Corvair! smileys with beer

I actually got my 60 sedan in the pics from the race track, they were going to take it to the dump, it was left in the Race car grave yard at the track, they asked me if I wanted the old Corvair out there? I went and looked and found this super nice 1960 sedan, So I took it!

The best advice I can give you is: Get the car, look at it, and post pics here and ask questions, it gives everyone something to look at, and easier to get an answer, a picture tells a 1000 words right? Try to fix the car first then modify it, once you get your hands on it then its easier to make decisions! Post pics when you get the car? thumbs up

So where are the pictures of the 60 racer?

Looking forward to this as a 60 was my first car. Never got it road worthy but learned how to drive on 5 cyls milk carton for a seat with bungy cords to hold the door in place. The current owner has just finished and the car will be at its first public display in over 30 years.

'Post pics when you get the car?'

Yep.I have asked current owner for pic's.

' milk carton for a seat'

Drove our '76 Dart 6 cylinder to the car wash to pressure wash.

Milk crates no bungee cords.Fun.

One last cleaning before disassembling to make Pro Street car out of it.

Could hang '70 glass body parts on it.Same unibody.

Yes.Asking for pic's.

Actually Dave motohead (I know what that means) is younger than me as is Joel and Geoff and I'll be 60 in June.
60 is also the year I was born. There are a few Corvairs older than me but not many.
