Any tricks to pulling the original shaft seal and replace it

My name is Mike Worrell living in southern Iowa my vairs are a 64 2dr convertible monza 900 with 110 motor 4 speed light yellow with blk interior. Then a few months ago I got a 65 2 Dr convertible monza 900 with 110 motor 4 speed
Also light yellow with blk interior. Not sure what gear ratio as of now I'll have a look and up date. I really like them both but really liking the 65. They really made a lot of changes in a 1 year difference ????

Take a self punching center punch and ding the steel, screw in a couple drywall screws, and pry the seal out.

Very small self-tapping screws too. It is easy to
damage the cast iron around the seal.

If you are lucky enough to have an original seal there is a flange around the outside and all that is needed is to pry the seal out, Usually a large screwdriver will work. The replacement seals like shown above , the screw routine works.

When you replace it, cover the shift shaft holes with tape or heat shrink so you don't nick the new seal. Someone used to sell double lipped seals, a good idea if they are still around.

Fill the gap between the seal lips with good grease before installation and clean and polish the nub of the shift shaft on the trans as well.
