No option 66 Corsa Coupe? Decode options line please.
Posted by: Paulsgt ()

Hello all,
Looking at a 66 Corsa with the following trim tag. I looked at the Corvairkid Enterprises site but cannot quite figure this one out. What is Option "W"?

Thanks!

Enjoy the Corvair!

W is the code for tinted windshield.

E would be the code for tinted windows (windshield + side glass + backlite).

Someone must have really liked red...

Craig, does that mean yours originally had the 3 speed? Or does that even show up in the trim tag?

'66-9 models did not show the 4-speed option because there was no difference in the body-build one way or the other.

I love the red on red in a 66. We had one back in the 70s. A red on red 66 Monza coupe. It's very striking. Also had an Aztec bronze on Aztec bronze 66 Monza coupe. Both were identically equipped 110/PG cars. Seemed like everything we found back in the 70s was 110/PG.

Thanks for the replies.

Enjoy the Corvair!

In 1966 GM made many items standard equipment.
Padded Dash, 2 speed wipers & washers, outside rearview mirror - all formerly an option that Fisher body coded on the ACC line - now stock, so No Code needed.

Remember too that Chevrolet Assembly added options too. A Telescoping Column, "Wood" sport wheel, Sport Suspension, Positraction, 110 HP engine - etc. would Not be on the Fisher body Plate but would be coded on the Protect-O-Plate if you are lucky enough to find the original one.

Does the Protect-O-Plate have all the options listed? I have mine for my 68 still in the booklet.

According to Kent Sullivan's Corvairkid.com article about '66 paint and trim, "Z" code was added to LOS '66 production bucket seat cars that didn't have headrests. It's called an "Exception Code Letter" or ECL.

Trim 758 denotes black vinyl bucket seat interior.

Yes indeed. The standard trans was a 3-speed for all models. The 4-speed was optional. The '65 Corsa 3-sp shifter is a rare bird because it has the faster lever ratio required for the long-throw 3-sp trans but has a Chrome finish that's unique among 3-sp shifters. All other 3-sp shifters are painted black.

I used to have one of those '65 Corsa 3-sp shifters and I made somebody very happy when he bought it. When that shifter is used on a 4-sp, because of the shifter's fast lever ratio and the 4-speed's shorter throw, you end up with a double-quick factory shifter.

Maybe 10 years ago I test drove a 66 Corsa convertible with a three speed. It was in Virginia and on ebay. I passed because of body damage poorly repaired previously, and a fresh poor paint job. Later the owner said it sold to a guy in California!eye popping smiley

You guys are awesome.

Any Ideas on the three to the far right? Maybe a B, T and I or 1.

It's a little hard to read. The plate is still in the book so I took a pic from the back and flipped it so it wasn't backwards.
