FOR SALE -1964 Chevrolet Corvair Turbo Spyder - 1 of 4700 Made
Posted by: randypet ()
Date: November 05, 2019 11:33AM

Up for sale is Chevrolet Corvair Turbo Spyder. This particular Corviar is a Very rare car, with the 150 HP "Spyder" turbocharged engine and 4-speed transmission. Two door convertible. 1964 is a desirable year for the first generation Corvair due to the updated suspension and larger engine, and only about 4700 1964 Convertibles were equipped with the Spyder package. The Corvair was only the second factory turbocharged car ever produced and the Spyder generated 40 HP more than the most powerful naturally aspirated engine offered in 1964. Restored Spyders have sold recently for over $30,000.

The car has been in a private collection, but company liquidation forces sale. It will look amazing once it has been restored. Selling as-is, this car is non-running and waiting to be restored.

Original engine:
Engine # T0912YR

I have included close up pictures of the engine # and vehicle serial #

Included in the sale is also a set of seats.

The Corvair is located in Sonoma, CA

If you would like to come out and view the vehicle or have any questions feel free to contact Randy @ 707-974-8061

forsale

Seems like such a good deal to spend 30K to restore a car worth 30K

Welcome to the world of Classic Cars.
Some people spend $80,000 restoring cars that sell for $40,000.
So if you break even on a Vair, you've done really good!

Actually I never saw a sale price. The way the original post is written it should be placed in Hemmings or a Craig's List ad. The ad is written trying to impress the uninformed as do typical sales adds.

This car could EASILY be worth $30000 (if Nick Schumaker owned it). I am thinking this car as is
is worth 500-1500. YMMV.

I bought my Spyder for $1000, mine looked similar although very solid rust free car, had one rust spot under the trim, took 1/4 of a patch panel. I maybe invested another $2000 doing my own work for the most part. It's not a concourse winner but I'd estimate it's value at $8-10,000.

I think Max is stating the obvious.

Telling people how rare it is sounds good and all but 1964 Spyders are not that hard to come by. Finding ones that are glorified parts cars is even more common.

Describing how it could be "restored" easily for cheap is misleading at best.

If the asking price is $500.00 then I would consider that fair.
Transport cost could e a deal-breaker though.

Good luck to the seller.

I cannot believe what I’m reading here. If this was a 63 four door maybe the comments would be more appropriate. This is a as pretty solid looking example of one of the rarest most desirable Corvairs. Absolutely worth the asking price. And yes I have put the work into one that was in this shape.

That's the difference between east coast and west coast people.

West coast people see these pictures ad think, wow, look at all that rust, that will take forever to paint.

East coast people look and say, gee, I wish I could find rust free cars like that around here, too bad it costs money to ship them not running.sad smiley

Several years ago I inquired the cost to move a non-running Corvair from southern California to Virginia. $1600 estimate. I think a $1600 investment to get a rust free car over investing $1600++++ to fix rust is a way better idea!smileys with beer

Matt did not say "search". He said "call Randy". So I did. Have not received a reply as of last night but thanks for the info NM.
What is that red car in the background? Looks almost like an MGB-GT? AC Bristol?
Triumph?
