Another 4 more small parts done. They were in the new parts bin, so I almost forgot they needed painting. These are NOS parts I acquired for this project.

Bought the LM short shaft steering gearbox from John Sweet. It will be rebuilt for the coupe. I will purchase the collapsible intermediate shaft soon.

I will have 2 66 steering gearboxes for sale down the road. One is in final stage of rebuild. The other is off the coupe waiting its turn.

Received the 67 steering gearbox from John Sweet today. The shaft and ball nut look great. It will be rebuilt and put in the 66 Coupe. Collapsible Shaft is on its way from Seth Emerson.

Finished the last 5 pieces that need blasting and painting. Ready to start putting the assemblies together.

While I am putting bushings in the painted control arms for the Coupe, I will take a spare set of rusty control arms I have and install new bushings in them for the More Door. Don't have time to do all the prep and paint for them. But just as easy to install bushing in another set of arms when doing the Coupe's set.

Don't forget to tackweld the new bushings! Remember, they sometimes back out.

Yes. Keep hearing that every time the rear bushings are mentioned. Once bushing is in, I will clean a spot for weld point up on each one.

Read about front lower arm bushings have one way to be pressed in. Must have weight of car on suspension before torqueing bolts/nuts. Anti-seize on all threads.

Still have to make 4 square washers for the rear camber bolt location. I am using PMT Fabrication rear control arms on the Coupe, so camber bolts are not needed.

Any other tips?

Got all parts laid out for the assembly. Ball joints installed, tie rod assemblies made up. Rubber bumpers installed. Front shocks lower bumpers installed. Bushings put on front struts and rear stabilizer rods.

Decided to wait on pressed bushings until tomorrow when I am less tired. Today was a work out day with all the sandblasting. It was done outside the box in a tarp supported to collect the sand. PPE and glasses used. Plus I had a good sized piece of plexiglass in front of me to deflect most of the sand.

All pressed bushings for front suspension pressed in.

Completed right side suspension today. I left front strut rod loose until weight of car is on it. We mounted left upper control arm. Going slow, but it will be done by mid next week.

A bit more done today.

Completed left suspension - lower control arm, spring, shock spindle and strut rod.

Installed front stabilizer bar.

Installed both brake caliper plates, steering arms, tie rod assemblies and center link. Neutralized tie rods since old tie rods had mismatched threads exposed. This required finding a straight line for the hubs. I accomplished this by measuring from caliper plate to center of camber bolt. Made sure I had equal measurements front and back. then repeated on other side.

Installed hubs and called it a day.

Tomorrow brake rotors, brake calipers and hoses get installed. Then assembly is ready for installation, but I will rebuild my 67 steering gearbox first and set up collapsible intermediate steering shaft before installing front suspension.

Brake rotors and calipers are on. Ready for installation. But until I get 67 steering box and collapsible intermediate rebuild and configured for the 66 Coupe.

Tomorrow is Greenbrier day to install brake lines.

Had a right brake issue that I fixed today. Seemed with the rotor tightened against the hub, the rotor would not turn without a mechanical advantage in my hand (wheel wrench). Removed caliper bolts and slid caliper off. Inboard pad remained locked in place. Measured rotor and found right rotor was only 0.0015 thicker. Measured inboard pads and right inboard pad was 0.050 thicker. I used belt sander to lightly sand off the 0.050 extra material, then pad slid in without binding.

Don't know why it happened. The rotor and pads were box together when removed for suspension rebuild. So maybe one the 1st install, I got lucky and had all tolerances add up right for it to work. But not this time with placing all in one box. Only calipers and their mount plates are unique to car position.

In the 70's that was a common problem when changing pads.
