Is the top ventilator baffle under the cover needed?
Date: October 13, 2019 01:16PM

I own two late model turbo corvairs since early seventies. Re-built one
engine in the early 1980s'. Has 100 miles on it. Neither have run since.
Because sitting, need to be checked, resealed and examined.
Don't remeber a top ventilator cover in the engine as listed in Clark's
Corveir book (2019-2025)page 10 item #9. I'm over 70 so my memory slips.
What is #9 made of? Kind of looks like a vally pan on a V-8 enging. Is it
really necessary ?

Yep, I think you will vent oil through the breather tube constantly as crankshaft slings oil everywhere. Its main job is to remove air from the oil, I believe.

Necessary, or GM would not have spent the money for it. grinning smiley

Keeps oil out of crankcase vent system as Al said.

So you need 2 top cover gaskets.
