Assuming a 4 spd, I have a rebuilt 66 4 spd done by well known/respected Corvair tech/owner Paul Kehler (may HE rest in Peace). I also have the mating Differential rebuilt by him.

Let me know by PM, if you are interested in both. Marco recently selling similar ones for around $850 each. I probably will have a better price.

Beware:

There are differences if You use the '66-9 trans, 6 bolt mounting to diff, so diff will have to be changed, when You do that, the u joint straps and bolts at the diff will be larger, crossmember is different and reverse light switches/wiring is different.

65 4 speed is smoother shifting than the (heavy duty) 66. Also a direct fit part.

Maybe Jim will respond, but if I recall correctly in my conversation with Richard Payne regarding this transmission, 3rd gear went out on it. NOT certain, but that is what I believe he said. they are hoping to score a decent 65 transmission and maybe between the two of them they can make one good one.

Hmmm, if correct, that information would have been very helpful at the beginning so the right offers could have been made quicker and offers for others not made. Could have got to the answer quicker and help been more targeted.

Ken: nothing about a used one. So rebuilt ones would be good offers so would a 66 unit since they can fit with minor changes. That the used unit need is s where I was directing my post towards. More information on the exact need is always helpful to get the right reponses.

Jfrese:

V8vair on the forum here will rebuild yours. Much less that buying a replacement. He is in the Atlanta area. Send him a PM to see what he can do.

Am I missing something? He doesn't state if it is PG or manual. I have at least one 65 PG transaxle that I am giving away.

Per Dan Dromerhausen's (Dan the Gear Man) CORSA article a 1966 or newer transmission can't be installed on a 1965 or earlier transaxle. It will bolt up, BUT the 1965 ring and pinion shaft is TOO LONG vs. the 1966 and later ring and pinion shaft.
