Twin Engine All Wheel Drive Experimental Corvair

Just thought I would earn my keep and come up with a good idea here.

Front drive engine 'power pack' involves adapting drive axles to front suspension

with provision for turning the wheels.Steering.

The rear drive power pack should be mid engine.

Running the engine backwards is out because it would change engine power

characteristics.

So reverse rotation pinion shaft or reversing pto gearboxes at wheels are in.

This is picking up on what Zora Duntov was working on before GM pulled the plug

on him.

Might name it the 'California Corvair Special'.

Well, maybe you'll have better luck than the many who have tried this in the past.

Ever wonder why no one has "mainstreamed" this configuration?

Thanks Matt

'already done'

That is truly an inspiration to us.smiling smiley

Ensys

'better luck than the many who have tried this'

Looks fairly straight forward to us.

Front drive and a mid engine layout combined in a tube frame.

Here is our list:

Two '61-63 standard engines and powerglides.

Same axle gear rations front and back.

Use a many stock parts to reduce fabrication jobs.

Even down to stock wheels and tires.

One big problem is getting the engines synchronized. No 2 engines ever run the same.
It will require a custom front suspension, subframe and axles to allow for steering.

Thanks Joel

'custom front suspension, subframe and axles'

Going to try and sneak by using as much of the stock parts as possible.

It can even being 'steering u joints'.

It will be 'adapting' and 'mating' parts instead of total fabrication from

scratch.

Land Rovers and something else have 'steering u joint's' not CV joints.

We want to make it 'simpler not simple'.Paraphrasing Einstein.

You won't be able to use stock control arms (no room for wheel turning), axles or swing axle type suspension (swing axles don't work if they have a pivot on the outside like you need to turn).

Thanks Joel

This is the plan for getting parts to look at.

Corvair one barrel downdraft and a sidedraft in about a month.

'60-63 engine.By Christmas or the new year.

Transaxle and one of the complete suspensions.During they spring.By July.

I don't think I will ever get to your 'see it in your mind' level of knowing this

stuff though.

Thanks for your heads up.Choppy waters ahead!

Thank you Matt

Sent him two PM's and no response.

That is okay thought.

Right now the problem is storage space.

If it was not for that we would be swimming in cars and parts.

Thanks for following that situation.

I will try that phone of yours again.
