Sorry to be so late in posting this, the graveside committal was yesterday:

Ronald F. Thompson, 68, lifelong Superior resident, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born in Superior, December 30, 1950, the son of Robert and Lorraine (Flaten) Thompson.

Ron was united in marriage to Kathy Cherry, December 20, 1999, and they were to celebrate twenty years of marriage this year.

He served his country honorably in the United States Navy, and worked as a delivery man for Auto Value before he retired in January.

Ron was a beloved husband, father and friend, who was dedicated to helping others. He had a gift for recognizing a person in need, and was always willing to lend a gentle helping hand. He was a huge Corvair enthusiast, and a Twin Ports Paranormal member and investigator.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; daughters, Stephanie, Jennifer, Angie and Amy; grandson, Noah; sisters; and many cousins, and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, October 4, 2019 in Veteran's Memorial Park at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, where military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.

Ron was a good friend who helped many many times, including myself. He previously was an active poster here and on Virtual Vairs.

He drove a 62 with a Big Bore, he loved screaming down the back road to his house.

Ron had a fluid overload, went into the hospital to take it off. He coded a night or two later and then seemingly recovered well. I understand he was being transferred from the ICU to another room, was talking with the nurses, closed his eyes and was gone.

He was a friend of mine since age 3. I miss him a lot.

So sad to hear this. I knew Ron when he was in Seattle Area some time ago.
I'll pass this on to others in the area that knew him as well.

68 is way too young. ~ I'm there come Wednesday!

Ron was a friend for many years. We chatted and joked almost daily.
Loved his big bore 62 maroon coupe. Always teased him that I would
happily store it for him when needed.....as long as he left me the keys.
The rebuilt original 102 from that 62 coupe lives on in my 62 sedan.
R.I.P. my friend and fellow sailor. May you have fair winds and following seas.

I remember that Matt, really it was more like he talked you into wanting to take it! He was so proud that you liked it!

When the Head Of The Lakes Corvair club was going in Duluth/Superior, Ron was involved with the Corvair Cavalry, a group of guys who would go out and help new people get their Corvairs going. I only met him a time or two but think of him as one of the good guys.
