WTB: 63 Van drivers side Upper Sheetmetal near Galena, Il.

My 63 , 95 Van has a big hole in the side were some owner before me decided it would look better with a side window behind the drivers door. did a bad job of putting it in and I would like to fill it back in. They also cut out part of the body frame work when they did the window cut out. Would any one have a rust bucket with a good upper side panel and inner structure frame that they may want to get rid of? Hopefully around north west Illinois. I have some pictures of the hole and the missing bracing, I just have to get them loaded from my phone, I can email them to any one that would respond to my post that may be able to help me out. I would like to chat with some Corvair guys close . There does'nt seem to be many around my area.
Thanks for the post, Tony from Galena, Illinois

Mine is a left hand side. I had all the holes repaired where PO had used bolts & nuts to install seal and retainer.

PM me, if interested. It will be less than vendors price. I will be taking it to Maggie Valley.

JustNuts....

You are looking for a body panel, right? You have a panel van, and someone cut a window into the driver's side, and you want to fill the hole.

That's what I get from it, at least.

Need to use correct terminology.

As far as I know...There is NO tin used on Corvairs*. The body and most of the chassis and engine shrouds are made of rolled steel alloy aka sheetmetal which is further process with giant presses to form the 3 dimensional parts

Tin is used as a thin plating on the insides of sheet steel cans to provide a non-corrosive barrier. Tin does not rust - steel does.
Obviously our sheetmetal never had any tin coating! Clean the coating from any sheetmetal on a Corvair and you'll find bare sheet steel.

"Shrouds" are a more proper term for the metal that surrounds the Corvair engine.

*Tin is alloyed with Lead for solder, so you will find "some" tin in Corvairs smoking smiley

Sorry for my inbreed, toothless, hillbilly, use of the wrong terminology in my post. I guess its a mid western thing. Eric P got the idea. Yes Eric thats what I'm trying to say. If you would email me I could send you pictures of what I'm looking for. I'm not that far from Dewitt.
My email is etony58@gmai.com
Hope to hear from you!

I finally figured out how to show you the pictures of the whole in the side of my van that I need to plug. Here's a link to the pictures: [photos.app.goo.gl]

I can fix the hole, but I would like to know what the bracing is suppose to look like. May be get the correct bracing fro a donor van?
