I don't know about your pump, but a lot of electric fuel pumps will sound different when the carb is full and there is a bit of resistance against it because the floats closed the needle valve.

15 seconds or so should do it. With the engine off, key on and purging, can you hear the pump running? If yes, when it shuts up, the bowls are full and the pump is dead headed. 2 full gas pedal pumps and fire it up!
