Which do you like better- steering wheels

Taking a survey. For 65-66, which do you prefer: standard wheel with horn ring or the wood look sport wheel, non tele (tele would tilt the Scales)? And why?

Many of you will vote aftermarket. Cool. That’s not what I asked. tongue sticking out smiley

I installed a factory(?)/dealer "wood" steering wheel on my wife's '65 Monza Coupe and I love it! I have a tele column, but at 6'4" I need the wheel as far away as possible, not closer; however, my wife may benefit since she is a foot shorter than I! It's on the list of things to do...

I have put a factory wood wheel on a 65 that I owned and it is nice, it spruces up the interior a little. The downside is you have to be careful how you drive and not use the wheel as a lever to hold yourself in position. Don't ask how I know. Other than that it functions as a steering wheel!

The stock wheel is also nice and stronger than the wood wheel.

Yikes! I never considered that.

The reason I asked is that I always preferred the sport wheel as it is an optional upgrade. But the standard wheel has that 60's look with the cool chrome horn ring. Just interested in what other people think.

Both wheels are RMS Queen Mary huge and sooo thin. I added a leather wrap to mine both to cover up cracks in the plastic and to add some thickness to grip. The car originally came with the standard wheel and I might just pop it on for a while for old times sake.

I had to get rid of that stock monster and go with a 13" Grant wood wheel. Even with rail extenders I could barely get in or out of the seat. Now it's nice and comfy with ample room. Plus the look isn't as stodgy but ads a little flare. winking smiley Mike

Looking at the two in your picture, I would have to vote for the Sport Wheel!
It just goes well with the full Corsa dash.
Now, if you had a Monza dash, I might say go for the Horn-Ring wheel.
.
As for the incredibly thin stock wheels, . . . . I have to agree with you on that issue.
Several years ago, I got tired of my pencil thin steering wheel, but had no cash for a modern, thicker wheel.
I very tightly wrapped my steering wheel with curtain cord, and then installed a quality vinyl "sew-on" steering-wheel cover over that. (I hate those slip-on plastic covers.)
It does retain the HUGE factory wheel, BUT provides the thickness and comfort of a modern steering wheel.
That leather cover looks really good!
Is it a > Wheelskin< ?

I have had a wood sport wheel in a ‘65 and have a wood tele and I like it a bit more than the fixed wood wheel. My latest purchased CORSA has the thin standard wheel and tele and will leave it in the car to see how it is. I like the look of it though.

I can't recall - I covered the wheel years ago and only installed it recently. I do recall that it was hard to find a leather cover large enough and this one barely fit. Then lacing it up is a bit of work too. Best to wear gloves!

This was choice No. 1. I really love the look and feel of the Grant wheel, but with factory quick steering, it was a BEAR in parking lots.

I think I caused some confusion with all of the pictures. The Grant wheel was on there when I bought the car, then I recently replaced it with the leather covered sport wheel. I was just thinking about the standard wheel, since the car came with that from the factory and I have a good spare.

I like that Grant wheel. Do you want to sell it? I have a grant wheel but I like that one better. Beautiful car BTW.

Enjoy the Corvair!

My favorite is the factory sport simulated wheel. Love the look. Added it to several will add to one of my 65’s soon.

Thanks! I also really like the look and feel of the Grant wheel. I may put it back on someday - so keeping it.
