Hi! My backup lights have all of a sudden gone dark. Still learning about her, but any guidance would be much appreciated!

Check the fuse...same fuse as the heater blower I think.

The switch is on the bottom of the trans, the wires can get broken off. Also it is not uncommon for the switch itself to go bad. They can be taken apart and repaired if your careful. I gave up on mine a few years back and found a NOS at a swap meet. I would start at the switch.

Isn't 65 backup switch external to transmission? 66 - 69s are in the transmission.

It's at the bottom of the transmission towards the front (if it is a 65 4 speed trans).

Welcome to the CCF! Tell us where you are! Someone may be close!

Are you a new owner? Hopefully, a local Chapter of CORSA is nearby.

As suggested.. check the fuse... and then look under the engine/trans and look for the round switch sticking out the bottom of the transmission .. should have 2 wires.... this is what gets broken off.

I end up buying a new one from Mike's Corvair Parts at our last event. He sells them as reproductions.

I inserted a 3/4 ball bearing at the end of the switch because that's what they say you're supposed to do.

We're ASSUMING this is on a 65 Corsa based on the posters sig line.
Although it's possible he has a 3 speed manual trans.

Right, could be three speed, plus, could have had a 66-69 transaxle transplanted in it.

Or even a Powerglide!eye popping smiley

Need more information, as the 61 to 65 4 speed switch is 1/2"-13 threaded, so how can a 3/4" ball bearing fit anywhere?confused smiley

You will have all of the dash warning lights on if that back up light fuse is blown as it is on the same fuse circuit.

Hey guys! Thank you for all the input. It is indeed a 65 Corsa convertible with a 4 speed trans. I live in Frederick, MD and have already joined the local Corsa club and will discuss at the next meeting. New problem now however, I have to replace my fuel pump. Gas just pours out of it now, and I can't tighten the bolts on the cap down any further and in fact, one of them won't seat, it just spins.

If it wasn't before... then it's a ruptured diaphragm... Local stores will possibly have one..

For those who asked me:

Down on the end of the switch where the button is. Yeah, it's a big screw space, but there is only a small opening at the transmission where it actually enters. A 3/4 inch steel ball bearing goes between the actual button and the tranny. Pull your backup switch and you'll find it.

I'm running a 66 LM Corsa with a 3.27 (recently confirmed!) 4 speed.

Eric... I think it more like a 3/8's inch! Threaded hole is like 1/2" ggg

Right, the threads of the 60 to 65 4 speed transmission back up switch is 1/2"-13. No way can you put a 3/4" sphere through a hole smaller than 1/2"! I say smaller than a 1/2" because it is a threaded hole, so only about 90% or less clear opening.

Now, a 66 to 69 three or four speed transmission is a different animal with a totally different switch, mounted on the side of the transmission.
