Crazy questions on brake drums

I have a large stock pile of 12 1964 finned rear brake drums. Also both of my Vairs are 1964.

The question. If I remove the rivets on the front brake drums can I used the finned rear drums on the front of my 64?

Very probably, but they are also heavier. Normal driving probably wouldn't matter.

Try it and see.

Try it and let us know. Not sure there aren't backing plate issues.

It seems that the early rear drums are slightly wider than early front ones. But as others have said give it a try.

Maybe wider in the spot that touches the backing plate. A little measuring should show issues.
