F/S: 1965 500 2dr Automatic Wash. $4000! Survivor!
Posted by: Gatorfly ()
Date: August 16, 2019 11:25PM

Looking for an original 2dr 500 automatic with some really unusual options? Well here it is! All original except the terrible Macco spray job that it received somewhere in the late 70's or early 80's. True barn find as it was rescued from the 3rd floor of a commercial building slated for demolition in downtown Seattle in the early 90's. It was then placed in a shipping container and sat there for 20+ years until I re-rescued it. Incredibly original example with some unusual options for a 500. Very low milage (47,000), automatic, white w/red interior, deluxe seat belts, rear antenna, tire lock, fold down rear seat, etc. Very little corrosion, excellent floor boards AND the original rubber floor mat in perfect condition :O) Now given the tendency for the floors on a 500 to rot due to the floor mats trapping moisture this is a fairly rare vair! Original trunk pan, interior, etc. Some corrosion under the front right bumper. Original license plates are still on the vehicle with the last registration in 1982. Original dealer advert sticker on the vent window as well as the dealer plate frame. This is a great opportunity to get an almost completely original 500 with great options. I'm putting on the forum first before I list it elsewhere as I'd really like to see it go to a member that will enjoy it. Engine runs quiet and is exceptionally clean. However, it will need a complete tune up and all seals and gaskets gone over completely as it sat in the shipping container for over 20 years and all I've done is change the original bias plys, clean out the gas tank, replace a few fuel lines, and bleed the brakes. PM me for more info if interested in purchasing. $4,800. No trades! I simply need to thin the herd a bit.

for sale

A few more. Notice the vent sticker. Jack Blume's University Chevrolet is no longer there but the original dealership building still stands!

Nice one! It's really unusual to see such a loaded option line on a 500. Someone wanted the goodies but preferred a bench seat maybe? Should be an easy sell.

I like this car. Brings back memories of my 66 Corvair 500 coupe I bought back in the late 70s. Mine sat across the street from the ocean
while I was living in Isla Vista Ca. Mine also was a low mileage, white exterior/red interior 110HP PG. Mine had A I R and lots of rust due to
location location. I think I paid $25 and the engine was somewhat disassembled. I replaced the engine and drove it for a few years.

That’s what exactly what I thought Craig when I first saw the car. I’m not an automatic fan but the car had such a great story along with the unusual options and solid body that I just couldn’t pass on it. Hopefully someone from the group will snap it up and get her back on the road :0)

It looks like this car also has the Comfort & Convenience group option:
Outside driver door mirror,
Two-speed wiper w/ washer,
Backup lights,
Glove box light,
[something else I'm missing]

It does indeed Dale! I think you missed the day/night mirror that is typically found with the "Type A" convenience option. It also has the original tire lock and padded dash. Let's not forget the fold down rear seat too. The door edge guards were added by the dealer I believe but am not certain.

I really don't want to put this nice little 500 back into storage for the Winter and I'm really not keen on Ebay so one last offer to forum members @ $4000 firm before it gets advertised locally.

Submit it to Bring a Trailer. Most Corvairs do well.

My first Corvair (that I owned, as opposed to driving my dad's) was a 1966 500.

It was immaculate like this one, but with a beige interior.

The people who had 500 cars really seemed to take care of them, while the "sport" guys buying Corsas abused them.

Now, all I have to do is come up with 4000 dollars...
