Buying Tips

I'm a newbie, and just starting my search. I'm looking for a 62-64 Convertible. Any tips on what to lookout for would be great. Looking for something that doesn't need a lot of work to start, I'm not a mechanic by nature, so will be learning along the way. Thanks for any tips

Welcome to CCF. There is a guide in
the FAQ (look at top of page for
'stickies')

Also if you give your location there
may be readers here close to you that
you can ask for experienced eyes to
help you.

My first suggestion always is see if a
club is near you and if so join it
before you buy. The club members know
where nice cars are and also will be
anxious to help a new prospect.

Look here: www.corvair.org

Good luck with your search

best wishes, Steve

Welcome to the forum.
I will make one suggestion right from the start.
It might be a good idea to add a signature line that includes a general location of where you reside. Not an exact address, but maybe a city and state.
This is often useful when looking for assistance, vehicles, and or parts because if you happen to be close to someone reading your post, they may be more inclined to reply or offer assistance than if your location is unknown, or a thousand miles away.

Do a search on this site using the "Search" feature and you may find information you seek.

By entering "Buying Tips" as a thread using all words and all dates I got this result. Scroll through it and you may find something worthwhile.

On all Corvairs but especially convertibles check for water leaks especially through the heater vents. Washing the car is a good way to find body issues and leaks.

Using a magnet to look for bondo is helpful. Look through the windshield at the metal at the base of the windshield and back window to see if there is rust visible. Pull up carpet if possible and remove rear seat bottom looking for rust. Follow the guidelines in the FAQ section.

Good luck.
