The original color was Daytona Blue, one of the most handsome colors on a Corvair.

With the changing out of the crumpled body parts and the straightening of the rippled panels there won't be much red left, paint it blue again.

Just curious. Approximately what would a frame shop charge to straighten out the unibody?

Usually it's a time and materials type job. $500 comes to mind. I've had six or more pulled over the years (lost count)

I was digging through the paperwork I got with the car and it was painted maroon years ago.
Anyone have a good body shop recommendation in the Dallas Fort Worth area?

Got rid of those awful wire wheel covers.
Also got one of the hideous whitewalls turned inside.
Priorities.
Anyone know these guys?

I hit a deer back in Jan in my 68 coupe and the damage was similar except it was the left front fender and the front clip to the center was damaged. After finding a NOS front fender and a used clip and a hood (in my archives) I tried to find somebody to fix it. None of the big shops would quote so I would try a small shop. Each of 3 promised to do the work in the future but after a long wait each one copped out. I supposed something better always came along. Finally after 7 months a guy with 50 years experience started the work. I don't know about yall but I'll not try to get one fixed anymore But rather have them total it or turn it over to the Ins Co and tell them to fix it. Yeah sure, imagine what it would look like then.

99% shops can't fix anything because THEY DON"T KNOW HOW ,,,,,,all they do is remove and replace with new , very sad

Corvairs are tough but any frame machine could pull it in half. Just need to find a guy that likes to do frame / body repairs in a timely manner.

Maybe if they are rusty! The clamps will give before the body pulls apart.eye popping smiley

Earlies especially. Way overbuilt compared to the unibody cars of the 80s 90s I used to work on.

No frame man like to overpull, too hard to fix!winking smiley Would be out of business real fast.

Looks very savable technically, though I can't see underneath if damage has occurred to the floorpan where energy has transferred from the initial impact.

It would be quite an expensive repair if you have to pay someone to do it, especially by the time it's repainted, you find rust etc. You'll want it on a jog for sure.

But we restore cars because we love them not to make money.

Here's a little tip if and when you go to a body-person grinning smiley to have the car "squared-up" on a frame rack: Don't remove any sheet metal before you take it in.

The body-person grinning smiley will need all the doors and so-on in place, so he can judge his progress during the pull.

The bent fenders are very well attached to the body structure and clamps/etc are often used on the damaged areas. Pulling on the damaged parts allow him to pull the body without causing clamp damage on the parts you're saving. Further damage the fender/etc doesn't matter because that stuff gets cut-off afterward for the actual repair.

A good frame man and machine can fix this car easily. I have seen much worse repaired to like new condition. I like the paint color but it appears to be a bad job up close. Good 20 footer though.

Maybe I can shed some light on the red issue.

These are just my observations.

We have been attending car shows for years. And almost without but a few exceptions, red cars win all the trophies. I have seen RED win when it had rust, cloudy glass, and cars in the same class were close to perfect.

Judges, mostly untrained, will gravitate to a red car in a heartbeat.

I have actually watched them judge and overheard, "OH look at this red one"

People like red, it is a color that "moves " people.

Hey, I just bought a new Ford in Ruby Red. LOL

Since you like to buy tools big and small, you might as well buy your own frame machine.
