GM drawings
Posted by: tknobby ()

I'm looking for the GM drawings for the 140 head. I've searched and found the case and head drawings for the small valve heads. I remember seeing the 140 drawings on the FastVair site a few years ago but that site seems to be down or deleted.

Anyone know where these drawings went?

Thanks,

T...

See [vairstuff.webs.com]

Portions of the drawings for the 140 heads appear in Steve Spilatro's poster series from GM dwgs, so he probably has access to original copies. HTH.

Yes, I can probably help out, but would need to know the head part number.

Thanks Steve,

I need the view of the chamber cross section cut from left to right through both guides.

Tom,
The only drawing I have for 3878570 mainly shows head exterior dimensions such as this:

I have drawings for 140 heads with different part numbers, and I do not know how they differ. For example, I have a much more detailed drawing for 3856728, which may be from a later model year and includes this:

So if that not what you need, and if there any other GM part numbers that would be of use, I can look for them also.

Steve,

The lower image is exactly what I needed. Thanks so much! I've saved it to my computer.

The main differences in the 140 heads are between the 65 and later. The 65 have 2 smaller 1/4-20 threaded holes for the top sheetmetal where as the 66 and later had all 3/8-16 threaded holes. The 66 and later had 3 of the lower head stud holes fully enclosed which strengthened the head and helped keep the lower valve cover surface from caving in mid-section area. The very late heads had stainless exhaust tubes. Otherwise for machining the heads were the same.

Thanks again.

I'd like to see the view that shows the machining depth of the head gasket surface. I assume that dimension is the same for all Corvair heads.

If you have the Corsa tech guide, that info and more is on a fold out page.
