71 was a good rocker when I was a kid Landers-Big Bear was a fun when I was in Big Bear what a violent one. In Canyon Country in 94 was another bad one. These were softer rollers than the past couple quakes but I have learned in the past is be prepared.

Yep. Nice roller here where I am. Power is out here in Fillmore, but not closer like Santa Clarita.
Was displaying at the 4th of July show here yesterday when the first one hit.
Haven.t had a good quake here since the Northridge. Lots of downtown Fillmore fell down in that one. I only broke a lamp!

First thing I thought this morning after reading about it was I wonder if Motohead was affected by the quake. Then about my brother south of him. Stay safe.

Sylmar was the only one that ever scared me. I was in Whittier at the time living in a new apartment building.

By 1981, I was living in San Diego, so further away from L.A.

Ah the rainy San Juan Islands, where earthquakes that register 3.0 on the Richter scale count as "big ones"! I've managed to sleep through nearly all of them!

Kevin,

Were you in San Juan Island on Feb 28, 2001 for the 6.8 earth quake?

John, I had to look that one up- [en.wikipedia.org]

Yes, I've lived here nearly all my life. Those big quakes don't affect us here. There have been lots of little ones over the years but no monster big ones that I know of. A former Geologist that I know said the plates the San Juan Islands are on seem to be the kind that "slide" easy, so we get lots of little ones, instead of a few big ones!

I spent 6 or 7 weeks working 12+ hours a day 7 days a week at a power plant in
Centrailia Washington a few months after that quake. It really bothered the crew at the power plant.

I live in Ridgecrest and my family and I were away in San Diego when both 6.4 and the 7.1 occurred. Came back Sunday to a few broken items to include the TV. I had my 65 convertible in the garage and luckily nothing fell out of the storage in the overhead. Still feeling a bunch of aftershocks.

Not so sure that Vegas is where you want to run off to ! ! !

> > > Move Over, San Andreas: There’s an Ominous New Fault in Town < < <

Been in many LARGE quakes over the years.
Will take a "Roller" any day.
Was once in a 7.3 roller that lasted 59 seconds.
That was much preferable to the short lived but actually physically painful, 7.2 that had an acceleration rate of 2.2 G's!

The real "Big One", will not be the San Andreas fault slipping, but rather the "Cascadia Megathrust Quake".
