Black Box Programmable Timing Control Module - update
Posted by: kmart356 ()
Date: July 01, 2019 02:09PM

To those of you that have or plan to get the CB Performance Black Box Programmable Timing Control Module. First, my system has been stable and running most excellent since the installation & tuning was completed. thumbs up

Secondly, the cautionary note I have included when answering questions on the Black Box is that the MAP Sensor readings (displayed values) are "off". They are predictable and can be used with a correction. The correction should be generated by each user based on bench tests to calibrate your unit. If you need assistance correlating the Black Box readings with the timing map values, send me a note.

I spoke with Technical Support at CB Performance today. They have been delayed in generating new firmware but we are still hopeful for an updated version. They have my name on the list to run beta tests and I will spread the word to those of you that indicate an interest by replying here. cool smiley

I have the newest version of the firmware on my BlackBox and it is now calibrated correctly.

If ordering I would call and make sure that the newest firmware is loaded on the blackbox before ordering.

I tried flashing the new firmware the 004 version and it somehow burnt the ship! I am well versed in electronics and I did everything that directions indicated but still had an issue. I had to send it back to have it evaluated, they put in a new board and the newest firmware and the MAP values track the actual like they should.

Yes, I would like to be informed of any news/changes to the Black Box. I have modified my distributor but have not yet installed the device due to hot weather (it's still in mid-90's here).

Hi Tom, I am looking at their web site and not a download 004 file, where did you find it?

First, let me publicly thank Tom for testing out the updated firmware for us. My Spyder has been running very nicely with my timing table as is and I was not willing to risk trying new code on a "live" install. thumbs up

AS Tom has recommended - confirm before ordering the Black Box. Just call tech support and speak with Mark Lawless to confirm the latest firmware with corrected MAP is installed.

So here it is --> I finally mustered up the nerve to try the firmware update to version 16300004.hex that was sent to me and I provided to Tom.

Unfortunately my results were the same as Tom's - failure! I am sure they will get me fixed up but it does cause delay/frustration....

If you purchased a Back Box before September 3, 2019 you most likely have the "older" version of firmware that does not correctly process the MAP readings.

DO NOT try to update at home.sad smiley

I will have to send to them for fix or replacement. Once the box goes down, the dashboard cannot connect and timing table is likely gone.

They fixed Tom's so they will fix mine. drinking smiley
