As topic indicates,I'm looking for a spare tire trunk mounted bracket for a 1965-1966 Corsa.A/C is going in and relocating spare.I will have an excellent engine area mount for spare tire if anyone needs one.

That part will need to be cut out of the floor and welded back into your vehicle.
You will also need the "j" bolt (shown) as well as the large wing nut.
A factory trained Corvair mechanic told me that part was only on the factory installed A/C cars as the dealer installed systems did not want any welding done so close to the gas tank and there wasn't enough time paid to remove the tank.

That bracket is also used in '69 conv with the 140 hp engine. That should open up a lot more possibilities, not. I do think that it was a part of the factory kit but a lot of flat rate mechanics probably said that it was not.

I realize all that,it doesn't change the fact that I want to install one in my Corsa.It doesn't matter if it was factory,/dealer installed,someone has one if they have they gumption to cut it out and sell it to me.

I have one I may consider selling. The edges need a little straightening but it’s all there including the j-hook. See if someone else comes up with one 1st. They were installed kind of crude with some pretty poor welds.

Here is a photo from a previous discussion. A good metalsmith can make a bracket just like this. Are you ready to pull down your tank to spot weld the mount in? Get new hoses for the filler and vent and a new filler grommet. Don't forget the anti-squeak tape.

I have 3 or 4 of the engine spare tire mounts. No one wants them, so I put them in my scrap steel bin a couple months ago.

Al, as stated this is what I want to do,I'm aware of the amount of labor involved,it seems harder to get a bracket than put it in.

There is no need to drop the tank to weld this bracket on as it is on the other side of the trunk. Even if you burnt thru the trunk wall the gas is inside the tank past another layer of metal.

Rex: just my opinion. Murphy's law always seems to pop up at the least expected time. I just won't take the chance of a tank with some fumes being that close. And why didn't the dealers weld the mount in the trunk, again?

I have one of the mount brackets out of a car I scrapped. It will be welded into the Coupe, when the trunk pan is replaced. Gas tank is removed still until this happens.

Buster - A fellow in our club mentioned to me he bought an A/C part from Jeff at Calif. Corvair last week. Jeff told him the A/C car had just been parted out. Maybe Jeff still has the bracket - worth a check. Note Jeff is closed Sun. and Mon.

If the "J" hook is missing you can fabricate one from the universal aftermakret part. If you can't find it PM me and I'll see if I still have the number.

You WILL want to drop the gas tank if you weld in the bracket since it will burn off the paint on the side facing the tank. If you don't clean, prime, undercoat that it will rust out.

If you're going to do suspension work the tank drops easier when suspension components are removed.

I found a j hook on Ebay that should work. Length is about right. Has nut and. Washer also, if I recollect right. I still haven't ordered it as I want the mount in place and tire positioned before I commit to the hook.

Buster. I’d let mine go for 45 shipped but it will need work. The hook is included. I’d send pics but it’s in storage at a different location.

Disregard.I just unboxed it today. It’s pretty bent up from crude removal and a little corroded. I think I’ll just straighten it and keep it for a future project. It’s not worth what I’d sell it for in this condition but it’s worth more to me since I wasn’t totally on board with selling hence the “may consider selling”. Maybe someone else will come up with one for you. Thanks for the interest. Good luck
