One fix for slow wipers

Over the years folks have posted about the wipers being very slow.

There are a number of causes, but one I recently found was the wiper linkage under the cowl grille. While the linkage was out for painting I inspected it and found the wiper posts in the brackets were binding.

This is a Calif. car so corrosion was minimal, but the shaft was dry in the bracket bushing and rotational resistance was high.

I cleaned it with solvent, oiled it up, and then applied some water resistant grease (used for boat trailer wheel bearings) to keep the oil in (and water out). What a difference!! Wiper shaft rotates easily now. Of course all the little ball and brackets on the linkage should be cleaned and lubricated.

And do not forget to power it from the Horn relay... voltage stays higher
