Found!! - Steering Box Lash Adjuster Shim - .065"
Posted by: flat_six ()

I'm rebuilding a box and have too much clearance. Current shim is .062 and I need to lose .003 of slop. Book says they were available in .063, .065, .067.

Thanks, Mike

Do you have or know anyone with a hole punch that has a series of hardened pins used through presision holes? I'd make a .003 shim out of sheet stock.

Thanks for the suggestion but this needs to be a one piece spacer. It rotates inside the steering gear and a .003 shim would shred.

6 months ago when this was brought up, I was basically told the shim didn't matter. Go figure.

SCORE!

Well I am humbly embarrassed and grateful to say that Steve did offer to send me a thicker shim, but also helped me think beyond the end of my nose - suggesting that I find and try an adjusting screw from another steering box. That action resulted in an instant 0.0015 lash! Perfect.

Another example of this forum being worth gold! Thank you Steve!!
