O/T-Not Racing on the Salt Flats Anytime Soon
Posted by: Phil Dally ()
Date: May 28, 2019 06:23PM

First I'll say I don't know if this means anything at all.

First picture is May 4th and all the racers were excited.

That we had dry salt in early May...but now not so much.

Link is the B/V Salt Flats camera 24/7 every five minutes.

More rain in the 15 day forecast but warming next week.

The Bonneville Salt Flats are an incredible natural beauty.

Salt is the whitest of whites and you can see earth's curve.

If you have never been it is an absolute car guy bucket list.

There are thousands of photos but none really do it justice.

Ironic, I was just commenting to a co-worker on Saturday that I am not sure that we are going to have a Summer this year.
I remember back in the late '90s, we had a very mild winter like this last one, and Spring lasted until Fall, with no Summer to speak of.
Mild cloudy days, with occasional showers, that schedule just never ended.

Not sure what mild winter you are referring to....it snowed from December to Aprol, and hasn't stopped raining since.

Referring to the EXTREMELY mild El Nino winter we had HERE on the West Coast.
A couple of dry, no rain wind storms, one short very lite snow, and only occasional light rains.
I know that the rest of the country is flooding right now, but WE up here in the normally soaking Pacific North Wet, are actually in a DROUGHT right now!

You can take some of our summer with you where ever you want. It has been mid summer upper 90-97 temps here for almost 2 weeks already (Atlanta) too hoot too soon we have been breaking old records.

It's barely hit 90 here in North Texas.

Unfortunately that entire 915 package was sold.

Somebody made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

The good news is somebody here bought it.

The racecar is now stock configuration.

With late Saginaw 4 speed and 3.08's

You were my hero for doing the 915 conversion, now I don't know what to do.

When I was working on the engine for the La Boa Corvair Sports Racer, I held the transaxle from a Porsche 914 in my arms and fell in love.

The hero thing is so fleeting. smiling smiley

Reminds me of our motor home trip in 2005. Heading back east from Reno and here we come upon this sign. Bonneville salt flats so we exit and follow the signs. Running parallel to the interstate. This MH is getting 8 MPG and I'll thinking that we will get back on the interstate at the next ramp and then the road dead ends into a cul-de sac surrounded by water so back track we go. Was cool sight though. Jim
