LM motor mount options??
Posted by: bruces ()
Date: May 12, 2019 10:23PM

I remember reading here of an alternative to the factory rear mount for a LM. Nothing is showing up under the Search function, and the link from the Sticky FAQs is a dead end. I'm hoping someone here can describe what options there are for replacing this mount.

Cheers

The "make your own" was on Tedd Brown's "Corvairnut" site.

Maybe he can supply us a pdf!

I don't know if anyone still sells these but I see them now and again at shows.
Anyone know the application for the mount used to build this solution?

Texas Yenko dude has a NOS 66 mount for sale right now, I think clarks and California Corvairs sells new or rebuilt mounts. I like the 66 mount the best.

Agreed - 66 is failsafe. 65 style was an accident waiting to happen. Or as a buddy calls them "Engine falls out motor mount".

I used a few of the Clark's new ones - no issues so far.

I put a big bolt where the center Rivet would go and I tightened it down. Seem to work pretty well but now I have a solid engine mount

This is a poor temp fix of course. The car is designed for the powertrain to be able to shift some during driving. I also like the 66 style mount. Direct fit for all late models and readily available.

"Engine falls out motor mount"

I've seen a lot of failed 65 motor mounts, including one I rode in last month to the CVCC meeting 60 miles away. 120 miles with the engine mount lip sitting on the rear crossmember.

Sure, the rear of the engine can swing, producing some odd handling issues, but never saw one fail to rest on the rear crossmember and drop the engine to the ground (or near the ground).

I HAVE seen the rear of the engine hanging near the ground when the nut comes off the earlies! Very common sight back in the late 60s. I guess the cotter pin just rusted off?????grinning smiley More likely just left out after hasty repairs....thumbs up Now you know why the late models have TWO distorted thread lock nuts!smileys with beer

Let me make a long story bearable.....

When I owned my own web servers and IT company, Corvairnut.com was stored there along with the LM alternative mounts plans and other info. When i sold the company in 2015, they agreed to let me keep my stuff on the web server for free (along with a Corsasc.com).

I was informed last year that the server had crashed and they were not making any attempt to retrieve it I took the Domain Corvairnut.com and forward to my EFI site www.corvair-efi.com and the local Corvair club webname Corsasc.com domain name expired.

So.... Corvairnut.com info, plans and who knows what else I was doing back then is gone. My former IT company has been sold to another company, so chances of recovery hover around 0%. I have some pics of the mounts, but they were not the ones I made on the website about how to make your own for $25.

**NEW** Dual and Four TBI KITS are now available.

IIRC, Ted's "make your own mount" started with an Anchor 2477. It was disassembled and modified with a backing plate and new bolts. I have some pics somewhere if anyone is interested.

Is that the C11536 from Clarks? Tried that on my 67 w/ac and there is NO room to change belts. Went back to original...

Not Ted's mount. C11536 looks like the one I posted about up above that was sold by CU and Clarks. I found one included in a parts stash purchase a few years back but discovered it is too tight a fit for my A/C Vairs
