Pair of 95 heads... Value?
Posted by: Kyle_in_Mich ()

I am breaking down an inengine from a car I parted out last year. The engine is locked, but it coming apart with minimal fuss.

The block and heads both decode to a 68-9 95hp. I faintly remember these heads being a nice pairing with a turbo engine? Do they have much value in good shape?

edit: For what it's worth- and so I can be double checked- the head numbers both are 3878569

So 65-67 non smog 95 HP heads. Around here used they are worth about $50-75 ea on a good day.

Yes, depends on whether the heads have the typical 95 horse configuration with the squish area or are they the 'smog' style that resemble LM turbo heads.

Kyle,

Think these are the open chamber heads with no quench area. The 68-69 110 engine used these with domed pistons. The knock performance was, at best, very poor. I I just picked up a set of 64 110 heads to use on my 67 engine when it gets rebuilt. Heads will be bored for late cylinders and step will be welded up for quench.

Clearly, IHMO, value is close to zero. Sorry.

According to the Junkyard Primer, 3878569 are 68/9 95 HP heads. Like John says, not as valuable as 64 to 67 95 HP heads.

They only need to have the oil drain tube added to the right head to be 65/66 turbo heads. Wait, also need to re-thread switch hole to fine thread and adapt the thermistor hole.

But most people look for the 95 heads with quench to upgrade their turbo, since these, 3878569, heads are very similar to stock turbo heads, no performance improvement.
