Chinese door handle stripped again
Posted by: bobvair ()
Date: May 12, 2019 02:22PM

The pot metal FC early door handle has stripped again.

The cumulative creative juices of this group has (probably) long ago found the solution for this common problem? Is there some insert I should look at for a solution?

Please share ideas.

Tried so far:
Plastic sleeve
Epoxy

Thanks in advance

JB Weld might be worth a try. I know its used in other applications to reform threads in a stripped hole.

How about threading it for a set screw? I suppose that could hurt the splines in the door a little.

I have never really liked the re-pro FC door handles. The set screw is much smaller than OEM.
The only try I may suggest is drilling out the small threads and re-threading
The handle for 1/4 20 or larger set screw. But then, how soft is the re-pop pot metal.

The next step would be to find an OEM handle and have it chromed. Window cranks are a tougher issue because of the plastic nob.

I was initially thinking this thread was discussing the Outer Door Handles.
It now seems the discussion is for Inner Door Handles, is this correct?

Another option might be to drill completely through the door handle and the mounting point (there's probably a real term for it) and put a roll pin through the whole works. I had to do that on an old Dodge pickup that the knurling had worn off of both parts.

I had a different issue with my handles, they kept loosening up. I ground a flat spot on the serrated door stem and used flat bottom set screws in the handle.
