Any idea what the stock seat belt material is made of? Nylon? Rayon? I want to redye mine black and the dye additive is different for either material.
Thanks.

GM advised against dying the seat belts. I don't know why, but that was their advise to the dealers doing used car restoration for sale.

Same reasoning as do not paint a ladder (OSHA will flag you for it). Paint and dye cover up normal wear. Not a problem until some one uses the product (ladder, seat belt) and it fails because it was prettied up from damage instead of fixed (or thrown away). So, the lawyers at GM said to never dye seat belts!winking smiley

Can you mix a little of the dye and test it on your belt?

W M, I am curious, you used the wording "redye".
Are you RE-dying them Black, or changing the color to Black?
Just curious because I have seen other colors fade, but my factory black belts(2 cars) are just as black as they came from the factory.
I have not experienced notible fading with them.

My original black back seat belts that spent most of their life in the sun laying on the seat are slightly faded. I want to return them to a uniform black.

I see.
Well, no I can't see them, as they are half-way across the country.
But, I understand.
Well, mine probably spent their entire existence tucked under the seats since seat-belt laws are a relatively new thing compared to the age of these cars.
