OIL PRESSURE Gauge
Posted by: chucksworld ()

I have a 65 or later 110 hp and I'd like to put an oil pressure gauge for it. Does anyone know of a place to hook up to get it?

I hooked up at the oil filter bolt. I got the adaptabolt from Clarks and a gage and sender from Summit for my test stand. Will almost be same parts for my More Door Vair.

Make sure you find a sender with a signal terminal and a ground terminal. It is easier to ensure you have a good ground for the system that way.

Electric Pressure Senders I have seen are about 2.125" in diameter. Might have to remote it to another location via steel line.

Vdo makes a sender with both a light switch post and a post for a gauge.

You have way too much oil pressure.

Or you could use a copper washer size under the bolt, then any sender will work.

I've installed electric gages on several Corvairs. I put a tee in the original oil switch port reinstall the switch in one outlet and a flexible nylon line to the gage sender mounted to the frame cross member immediately behind the ebgine

Here's a link to an installation that (almost) looks OEM

I used the hollow bolt but had too much trouble using a copper gasket because of leaks. Made a split clamp with a hex center to clamp on the bolt to make a good ground. Used the VDO sender with both the pressure and light output. Really works perfectly.

Jetcat, could you provide info on your fuel pressure gauge on the fuel pump cover.

Owe the design to Dave Watson aka davemotohead. Best way is to get one is to get Dave off his butt and finally put it into production. His idea is brilliant if you go with an electric pump.

Not easy to make because it requires a mill. Used a bypass plate from Clark's and drilled and tapped (1/8" pipe) in the top. It's a blind hole so you need a bottoming pipe tap. Then you need to make sideways hole to the hole for the gauge. Need to use a small end mill, a bit won't work.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I've seen Dave's, it is a great idea. I thought maybe this was one of his prototypes.

I have one of those oil filter bolt adapters that runs the idiot light with the standard fiber washer. It works fine. I guess that's because I never thought about it. Thanks guys. Now it won't work...
