Probably something wrong with the detents or interlocks for the shift shafts.

i may have found a problem, my pilot bushing might be whats causing problems.
its very tight for the shaft to go in. I have to wiggle it in instead of sliding.
and once its in turning it is tough. i may have damaged the bushing while driving it in. Also it looks like its in too far?

can this cause my transmission issue? can this be the reason my gears got jammed in 2nd gear? i do know this can cause why (before it got stuck) the gears were grinding during shifts.

Ream up to size and polish, I would think. Did you soak it in oil?

This could be your shifting problem but not the stuck in 2nd gear. 2 different issues.

This is exactly what I was looking to hear. However I wanted it to be the reason for both my problems haha.

I don't know what the rebuild cost would be or availability of parts. I think now with everything apart is a good time, as I suggested earlier, to switch to a 4spd

I’m really not into changing the whole crossmember sad smiley it seems like I’m going to have to do a whole lot of work.

I’m ok with the price of buying a 4 speed just not ok with the amount of work having to do with it.

Plus I really do enjoy driving the car with the 3 speed it was all fun until i “rebuilt” things

Back in the 70's a friend and I did a 3 to 4spd switch on a 64 with cross member in the car with no more than a hacksaw and a big hammer. No torches no welder. Some 55 years later he's still driving it. I don't necessarily recommend this but the longevity of the work says something.

If you don't constantly wish you could downshift into first then you probably won't mind the 3-speed too much. I just came in from driving my only 3-speed and wished several times that I had first gear.

I don't mind the 3 speed at all. I usually throw it into neutral at a red light and come to a stop. if the light turns green before im fully stopped, I can blimp the throttle and shift into 1st smoothly (rev match) I do track/quarter mile/half mile many modern high performance cars and work on them for a living so the "old school" 3 speed non sync is somewhat fun for me.
