Missing Ductwork?
Posted by: Intrinsic ()

Hello

This is a photo from the right side of the engine, below the coil. I see the cooling fins from the cylinder.

Should there be a cover, or other bit of ducting to cover this area? Otherwise, it seems that this will bleed hot air into the cold side of the ducting.

Thanks

Yes there should be a piece of sheet metal shroud that goes there.
IF you look at the Clark's catalog it is illustrated on page USED-2, it is item number 19. [www.corvair.com]
They offer it used
Part number CU185: USED RT R SHROUD BEHIND DIST 65-69 ALL $10.00
Part number CU184: USED RT R SHROUD BEHIND DIST 61-64 ALL $10.00
Part number CU1258: USED SHROUD BEHIND DISTRIBUTOR-1960 Not available

Another source would be the Corvair Ranch in Gettysburg, PA. Jeff has a trailer full of shrouds already off and ready to sell. He ships out daily.thumbs up

I don't think you are missing any shrouds in that picture. Looks more like you are missing the fasteners and the right rear damper door shroud needs to be raised/bent straight.

What you have is a 65-up piece of tin that
covers the end of the head/cyl BUT the early
door. The late tin is shorter so you show
the gap in your pic. You need 61-64 end
piece and the two oieces will fit together.

The early tin will also have a nut plate
for the coil and you will need the early
coil bracket to ensure the coil will
stay in place. Your late tin has a square
hole for a tab on the coil bracket to s\
slip into.

I also notice a balancer pulley, is the
rear mount bracket correct to allow the
belt to slip past?? If not you obviously
need the correct bracket too.

There is an active club in Atlanta, I hope
you join the group. Easy to find parts
and advice locally too. GOOD LUCK

best wishes, Steve
