Horn missing spring?
Posted by: Mojan_n ()

I just bought this 64 Monza and trying to get the horn to work.i have tested everything and all looks good BUT I think the horn contact is missing. Picture below. Question is my car is a 64 but this contact is for 65 and up. Dose it mean my steering wheel is 65 and not original 64? Or I’m wrong, and there is something else missing?

If you stick a screwdriver into the hole where the contact assembly (with spring inside) sits, does the horn blow? You will be trying to ground the brass plate (ring) that sits in there.

I went a slightly different way and looked up horn contacts through the used section. 60-64 appear to be different. Same appearance but something must have changed for there to be 2 part numbers. Maybe look it up in the GM parts manual?

It isn't a spring, it is 'horn contact' as
Wagonmaster states above. All 60-64 (exc
wood wheel) use the same part.

GM #: Grp 2.819 763818

It is longer than standard wheel 65-6.

Do you belong to local club? Are you near
a shop or Corvair parts place?

Yet another case that a sig line would help

Do you guys know where I can buy the long one ( Wagon master doesn’t have it any more)?

When I am looking at Clark they have only one type and it seems short.

You are in Calif correct? Since you don't
divulge your location all I can suggest is:

There are clubs in bay area and LA and San
Diego areas. Club members are good sources
for odd pieces such as this. Also there are
shops in LA area and Bay area. Calif Corvair
advertises here. Mel's Vair Mart is in SF.

Mel's is in San Jose / Santa Clara - about a 40 mile difference.

Sorry Bob just generalizing the area and
trying to make the OP realize there may be
local help available to him. PLUS get him
interested in the club scene where he
lives.

I am surprised and disappointed that new
owners show up here often and yet only
a very few of us suggest joining local
clubs and CORSA.

Just my thoughts and opinions of course.
