I'm really looking forward to the new season. It'll be shown live on tv in the UK on a channel I actually have and I'm going to COTA to w as tch it for real. Went to the 100th 500 but never seen them race on what I would call a regular race track.

Perhaps this is the year I can get interested in Indycar. They seem to do more road racing these days which is what I like. I have a little trouble getting interested when the cars are pretty much the same but I'd like to give it a try.

I went to Indycar.com and had a look at the drivers and some are familiar to me. I'm a little foggy on the teams but understanding should come with attention.

Of course being a F1 fan I'm interested in the Alonso effort. I looked around and didn't find much news since December. From what I could gather, it looks like a single car Team McLaren effort with Chevrolet power not running the full season.

I read the Al Unser, Jr article and his team looks like something interesting to watch.
It would seem that there's some top teams and beyond that it's challenging to fund your way onto the grid.

Would it be fair to say that Honda is faster then Chevrolet as long as it hangs together until the end? Perhaps that's a simplistic statement from an ignorant casual observer and more of a 500 thing. I don't mean ignorant like stupid but like one who has ignored. Thanks if I can get an Indycar Primer to help get up to speed.

I don't think circle track racing is a bad thing, just not what I've been interested in and perhaps I can change.

O/T racing stuff seems to fall a little flat on this forum but it's about the only online group I belong to.

As an F1 fan the good news about Alonso racing at the 500 again is we won't have to listen to his endless complaining about his F1 car. He should have won more titles but sadly he gained a reputation for being difficult to work with. Sure Mclaren sold him a pup of a car for 3 years but he burnt any bridges he had with Renault and Honda to go racing with them again.

Are there many F1 fans over your way? I hope the upcoming season sees a shake up of the usual order, seems unlikely but you never know.

Besides my road racing buddies, I don't run into many members of the general public who are F1 fans. There's not a lot of Corvair enthusiasts either, not in the general public anyway.
Lots of shake up this year. I wonder if Red Bull will have pains.
Interesting to see how Ricciardo and Raikkonen will do at new teams. I hesitate to say lesser teams.
Vettel seemed to unravel a bit, I hope he can gather it up again.

Hindsight is easy but Alonso didn't make F1 moves that panned out.

I see Ericsson has gone to Indycar as well.

I looked around some more and couldn't find much on how much of the Indycar season McLaren will run. I guess Alonso didn't burn his bridges there.
It looks like McLaren is getting technical help from Andretti.
I hope they don't just run the Indy 500, that might be bad form.

Okay so I made a list with 34 cars and the team they belong to.
Looks like only 24 of those are in St. Petersburg.
Looks like they split the 24 cars into 2 groups for Qualifying.

33 cars registered for the Indy 500.
41 drivers in the stats for last year.
I see Danica last year. Is she still running in NASCAR too? I'm not sure why I'm curious.

That's all I know so far.

The news on Indycar.com shows 33 entries for the Indy 500 but I'm having trouble finding a list. A search was tedious at best. There must be a list of drivers and cars somewhere easy but I can't seem to find it.

Is there a place I can go to look for updates and sort of follow along?

Indycar.com news section shows 33 entries and I'm not counting that many. Thanks for posting it though, I will try to arrange it so I can understand it. Perhaps with this list it will be easy to add as new entries come along.

I wonder if Steinbrenner will fire the manager if it's not going well.

COTA this weekend.

I see Indycar.com has updated their driver list to include all 34 registered for the Indy 500 with 25-34 showing 0 points.

I see the first race winner got 53 points and the 24th place who only had 11 laps still got 6 points. A little different than F1.

I see Danica Patrick will be in the booth for Indy 500.

I see the British Pippa Mann has a long racing career in lots of different venues, primarily road racing, but she's been at the Indy 500 before.

Will any of the extra Indy entrants race at another oval beforehand?

Is 34 entries for 33 Indy 500 spots typical of the last few years? Maybe more to come?

The entry list may get to 35 or 36 before Memorial Day, but not more than that. Still, it's movement in the right direction after years of scrambling to get 33.

Maaayyybe one or two will run elsewhere prior to Indy, but don't bet on it.

I am a Pippa Mann fan because of her enthusiasm for the 500. But she'll be in a lesser car once again, unfortunately.

Having interviewed Marco last year I had hopes for better results from him, because his attitude in person was more positive and upbeat than we had seen previously. But the St Pete opener had to be a disappointment.

I am combining the Iowa race this year, where I will be part of the p.a. crew for the weekend, with a stop at the CORSA convention -- they are days apart.
