Talk me out of buying this car....

I like the color. But, the limited information and small pictures aren't inspiring confidence...

Gorgeous color ! ! !
140/4spd. sorry, can't down talk that one.
Click on the pictures, you can see them a bit bigger.
Caveat Emptor, and all that.
But when all is said and done, . . . .
It is your call.

I also was looking at this Corvair very hard. The pictures look real nice. I was scared off by the comments the lister makes about the floor pan. I sent him a question asking if he would be more specific and could provide pictures of the undercarriage. The lister never responded to me. The car is also a long distance from me so to pick it up or get it shipped would have been costly.

I wouldn't buy it at that price without seeing it in person. The pictures are too poor and pictures always make things look a lot better than they are.

Good looking car. Engine/trans combo is great. Great color and looks pretty clean. Even if it needs floor work, the price is right.

I would think someone from Queen City Corvair Club would know this car. It's kind of late now but it's only a couple hours, I'd have driven up to look at it. That being said I kind of like it, doesn't look to be molested, has age but looks like it's been maintained correctly.

You're in SC, the car is in NC, how far of a drive can it be? Drive up and see the car, take it for a test drive!

Cheers,

Mark

I didn't catch the Ohio plates

There's a mechanic in that area (well known in another air cooled car circle) who is supposedly retiring.

Some people have had good dealing with him and others not so good.

I'm thinking this may be his car. Probably no way to find out before the auction ends

Looking at the sellers feedback and what he's selling I think he's a Porsche guy that probably was hit up to get the car running and because he happens to sell things on eBay he is selling it for the owner, maybe for a fee. His profile even shows a photo of a backyard shop. My feel is he's an honest seller.

Did any one notice all the rust on the engine shrouds? Engine compartment wasn't taken care of for years. Bet the bottom is just as rusty.

Pictures of the bottom would probably make it a deal breaker .

Al, I thought that was primer showing under flaking black paint. Bad pictures make things hard to tell.

Primer is there but the bubbling on the fan shroud is rusting going on. The right shroud looks like fuel strip the paint and it was left bare. More rust than primer I think. I am viewing on my tablet while at a Shriner function, so clarity on tablet is not as good as my 22 hi def screen at home computer.

I run dual 27" monitors at home and resolution isn't any betterwinking smiley

You never know if poor pictures are to hide something or if the person just isn't techno savvy

I have a, uh rather large monitor, and the shrouds do not look too terrible to me.
Flaking red paint over black shrouds, with a little bit of surface rust on the right hand side shroud.
BUT, it has BRAND NEW "Mag Wires" spark-plug wires!
Looking at the close-up shot of the nose, it looks like the paint is hiding some Bondo below the trunk lock area.
Overall, it looks like a decent car.
Unfortunately, the lack of of bottom pictures is disappointing.
It could go either way.
