OT : West Coast weather cool smiley

Yeah, I know it is nothing like you east-coasters, and mid-westers get, but for us out here, this can shut a town down!
They said it would start at 1:00pm, and it did.
I wish they could predict "Sunny Days" with that kind of accuracy! hot smiley
2 hours in and it is accumulating faster now.
20 degrees out, yeah it is going to stick around a while!
9 more hours of this stuff in the forecast!
Well, at least I've got a "West Coast Snowblower" on hand! grinning smiley

That happens here once every few years, had 4 or 5 inches last year, was insanely difficult to get to work, no plows, salt or anything like that, just ice driving with a one wheel drive Jeep. The town shut down for like 4 days then it got bad because all those that had been home were now ice driving too.

I hope we don't go that deep!
It is 6:42, and still falling.
6 inches deep in the front yard, and the forecast says it may continue til midnight.
Just made a run to the grocery store.
May not be able to tomorrow. eye popping smiley
Glad my week-end is Sunday Monday!

J.O. I am sure glad that we do not get enough snow around here to warrant a "Real Snowblower"!
My brother-in-law tells stories of growing up in Ohio where they had a door at the end of second floor hallway, just for getting in and out of the house in the winter.
No porch, just a door on the second floor.
I had seen those in the midwest and further east, but never knew what they were for until he mentioned it.

Every once and a while...Antelope Valley December 2008.

Lots of rain here in Paso Robles but never a snowflake yet.

According to my brother it has been about 7 years since they had this much snow continuously around here. Had a few dustings, but not this much accumulation .I was born in the northeast and was a military brat for a portion of my childhood. I have lived in all four corners of the U.S. and like four seasons.

Back when I was driving, I ran into snowfall while going across 138 once, kinda weird feeling to be surrounded by Joshua trees in the Cal. desert and be driving in snow!
I used to spend the night in the parking lot of the Flying J's at the Frazer Park exit off the Grapevine.
One Morning I was woke up by voices just outside my rig.
I sat up and peeked out and there was a News crew filming a live report.
Everything was white and it was really coming down!
It was insane, I had gone to bed that night in a bare black-top lot, and woke up in a Winter Wonderland!
I guess it is not that uncommon, but in the hundreds of trips over that pass, I had never seen it.

In the Deep South - Graham, WA we had a gigantic Snow Flurry on Friday that gave us around 12-14 inches. I'm about 5 miles south of "Big Dave"

Lower right - that's a birdbath with about 14 inches of snowflakes. My poor Rhodie is suffering under the wet snow. One of my little Douglas Firs is bending to the snow's weight as well. We had about 5 inches more than a week ago, but the temps never got above freezing, so now we've got another 6-8 more stacked on top!
I cleared off my Chrysler T&C and headed out thru the snow to get some more fire logs for my heat! We run on Hydroelectric around here, so I always try to be prepared for an outage...

My birch trees suffered similar fates, bent over like a twig. I had to wait several days before warmed up enough to go out and knock the snow off. Few days later most were back up fairly straight.

One big evergreen, 35' tall, lost a branch up high, during a wet snow and wind event and the top branch took out ever branch directly below it.

This is most snow we have seen in years in KCMO. I can't wait for baseball to start.

The Grapevine was closed in both directions last night again. Reopened about 3 a.m. this morning. That is Interstate 5 for those not familiar. Altitude is 4100 feet

No worries, my Greenbrier does not have any rust issues on it and they don't use salt on the roads , only sand. As a matter of fact I am getting ready to embark on a journey to the dump in a little while. My van drives great in the snow. It's funny to see modern cars stuck on the side of the road ,while my old van just cruises on by.drinking smileydrinking smiley

Like Fred said, NO SALT here.
Besides, the Coupe is in the Garage, the Vert is under the Carport, so the driveway is the only place left for the Moredoor.
Forecast said we were supposed to go above freezing at 10:00 AM this morning.
2:00 PM, we have just hit a whopping 32°!
We just might make it over the top.
I sincerely hope so, 4.5 days of sub-freezing weather is ENOUGH!
I don't know how you guys do it!
Cleared a path to the car yesterday, and now see that I had a visitor over night.

A. Mel,
Thanks for posting the photo's.
Now I can see the Western Bullets on the More Door.
Here is a photo of what I came home to Tuesday after work.
At least it did not fall across the phone lines, and more importantly the cars.
The second photo shows the other side of the tree. it is the one furthest from the garage where the AWD Astro Van is parked.
You may also note how well the local Power company has gently trimmed my trees over the years.
I think it may be time to finally remove them completely, as much as I don't want to.

This has been a Winter of ALL weather types.
This El Nino sitting offshore has given us, . . .
Abnormally High Temps.
Abnormally Low Temps.
Hurricane force winds,
Dead Calm days with not even a whisper of wind.
Dry Days,
And Diluvian Storms!
We have seen it ALL lately. eye popping smiley
