update on 65 barn find

I learned a lot from this forum and the advice shared, thank you!

When I last posted it was running pretty well but oil leaks and brakes needed attention.

I pulled the tin off the motor and dove into the pushrod tube Orings. This car lived it's whole life at the end of a dirt road so you can imagine the cleaning challenges. The new orings really took care of the oil leaks.

Brakes were next. I rebuilt the wheel cylinders and replaced the shoes, replaced the master. Minor adjustment to the steering box and adding lube followed. Packed the front wheel bearings.

I finally received the title in January so was able to get out for a few test runs. I like it! It feels and sounds a little busy above 50mph but that probably relates to the 195/60/14 tires. I may need to bump up the diameter a bit.

I dropped off the rear hubs to Steve Goodman on Friday for a rebuild. It was nice to be able to meet him. I'm fortunate he's so close.

The list of things to do doesn't have as many items, but I can see fiddling on this car for a long time. That's a good thing!

Sounds like fun and it’s always good to get those things figured out.

Nice car! 215/60R14 is very close to the correct rolling radius. They fit easily with no modifications. However, I doubt if that will change your perception of how busy the engine is over 50 mph. You probably have the 3.55:1 differential.
I've never owned any manual 5 speed car, but occasionally I will mindlessly try to shift into a non-existent a 5th cog when entering a freeway in my vair. It's the nature of the beast.

Nice thing about LMs... Speedo is driven from Left FRONT wheel.

Leave the 195's and go to a TALL tire on the rears..

Matt gives good advice, but here is an idea to try before doing that.
Check your speedometers accuracy with a GPS first.
It may (quite possibly) be reading slightly high already, and a bump up in front and rear tire size would not hurt.
Like many on CCF, I run staggered tire sizes on two of my three cars, but rotating them is only side to side VS the full four rotation on the third car.

Looking good. Sounds like you tackled the bigger safety items and will be set to put miles on. The tinkering doesn't end but it is so fun. Having that next little improvement to think about, plan for and do helps to tolerate the daily grind.
