Clutch cable, reason my wife should not drive Corvair
Posted by: red64vair ()

My wife can but does not like to drive a manual shift. I am glad she doesn't because of the short lived Corvair clutch cables. A broken cable could be a disaster if it happened to her.

Driving the 66 this morning I press the clutch at a 4 way stop and bang, clutch cable broke. This is the third cable break in less than 10,000 miles. This cable lasted about 3,000. All broke at the pulley. Replacement cables do not last as long as the originals.

Find a good used original or NOS GM cable, The Aftermarket ones are Horrible. Or make your own. I have felt your pain as my Corvairs are daily drivers. Mike

I don't think anybody has answered red64vair's post.

Since the two cables broke at the same place, and its not at the ball, I would suspect that something is rubbing on the cable or that the pulley under the floor is siezed. Something not right in the car there. That is not a normal break point.
