As a pilot, that looks like a quick way to six feet under.

Totally agree! Corvair cranks are notorious for breaking when used in airplane engine. There are fixes for the but it’s mega dollars.

As a pilot, there is absolutely no way I would assemble that thing and fly it. The quality of the assembly and parts appear to be... ahem... less than optimal.

I know that I flew in a couple of puddle jumpers in Costa Rica while on a surf trip back in the late Eighties and they didn't look much better. I was a lot younger and braver (read stupid) back then.eye popping smileyeye popping smiley

Perhaps... but as luck would have it, my first plane was a 1955 Cessna 170b taildragger bush plane.

I still would not attempt to get that thing in the air.

Ah flew in a couple of those in my visit in '79 it had a 6 cylinder vs the newer ones having four?

Blew a cylinder..... landed in the nearest town... no one at the airport!! Everything open.... jumped in a car and drove until I came across a football game... found the field operator / mechanic.. said go get your friends...watch the game...someone will put you up... I'll fix it in the morning if one of you will help.... left the next afternoon...

You could fix it up.
Magnaflux the crank and get a 5th main bearing kit for the prop.
Why do planes usually have up-draft carburetors?
The price is cheap enough.
Where is your sense of adventure?

Does the ad say “flew when parked”?

I was under the impression it prevent flooding if something in the carb goes awry. Strictly speculation though

Since there's no apparent Crash Damage.... it most likely did run / fly when parked..

An experimental aircraft landed on the exit ramp on I-35 in Stacy, MN this week due to overheating from a coolant leak and rapidly rising temperature. He taxied a block over to the Kwik Trip, tightened up the hose, filled the coolant and after some discussion the Deputies blocked the county road so he could take off.

There's hundreds of Corvair powered experimental aircraft out there. You could certainly fix that thing up.
