Radio interference with FM converter
Posted by: kevair1 ()

I have the stock radio in my 66 monza, and added a period appropriate FM converter. However, unlike the AM radio which sounds fine, the FM seems to have a ton of interference and is plagued to a all sorts of noise when at low rpm or the lights, heater, turn signal or wipers are used. It literally changes stations in reverse. Does anybody who is good at basic ekectrical have this issue or a remedy?

Do you have the static straps on your engine shrouds? Dou you have the condensers on your coil and points? Do you have the static dissipator pieces in your front axle cups?

Just a few items GM put on the cars to get rid of radio interference.

I was going to suggest some of what Al, suggested!

I have one in my 60, I had in it when I was 16 in 1970. I put it back in after restoring the 60.
But I have no issues with fm, but do with am. Which is pretty much normal for AM.

But I have all the items Al mentioned except at the wheel.

Is there a match adjustment on your fm receiver?

Does it receive well with the key-on, engine-off? IF not, you may have antenna issues.

Since AM is fine, I'd double-check the connections to the FM converter and make sure it is properly grounded.
