EM Yoke puller
Posted by: joelsplace ()

Does anyone make an EM/FC yoke puller? I've seen a picture of the Kent Moore tool but I've never seen one for sale and it doesn't look like the best design to me. Can anyone comment on how well it works?
I'm thinking one more like the LM tool would be better.
Motohead's idea of using a steering wheel type puller does work but I'm thinking a purpose built tool could be better.
Is there any market for this besides me?

So I'm slow. Clark's sells one. The picture isn't very good. Does it use 4 bolts through the yoke or just 2? Anyone used it? Comments?

Here's this: [www.harborfreight.com]

Or this: [www.harborfreight.com]

Used both. Both function as good or better than factory tool.

Joel:

I have both of the Clarks supplied pullers. Robust puller well made for this severe task. I no longer do that kind of work so mine are excess to my needs. Make me an offer.

I can't see how the one in the first picture would work. I can on the second one but the push bolt doesn't seem stout enough.

I think I have one from Clarks and it uses 4 bolts and either a 9/16 or a 5/8 bolt that the end has been tapered on. The plate is reasonably thick also with a nut welded to it. The nut goes on the underside so it is pushing on the plate not pulling on the weld.

Give Bob a call or PM and get what he has.

I have used the Snap-On puller like what was shown in pictures above. I have broken the pulling bolts with that one! I have never broken a bolt using the the one like is shown in Clarks.

Interesting. Mine was bought from Clark’s over 30 years ago. Loaned to lots of club members. No nut, just threaded 1/2” steel plate. Finally wore the threads off of bolt, replaced that (5/8”dia). Then wore threads out of plate. Redrilled
all 5 holes and threaded the middle to 5/8”. Still working. Thought of welding a nut on. Nice to know I just need to thread one on.thumbs up

Of course I live in the rusty east, so that Harbor Freight tool would be junk after the first couple removed! Also need all four bolts or it (tool) would just bend and yoke would not budge.

Heck, even with the Clark’s tool and a rosebud torch, I have had to use the portaband on axle shafts!!!!!

I have had good luck using the LM Kent-Moore puller with longer, grade 8 bolts on EM yokes.Always make sure you get the thick washer under the Yoke bolt out before you use the puller.

This is my own design. Simple to make, and use.

How thick is the wall, or is it solid?

I use a drift punch and a hammer and drive the yoke from the rear axle.

Mike, just wait until you run across one that is stuck. I was always puzzled at how people had trouble removing them until last week I had a stuck one.

Ha Ha Ha grinning smiley

Must be comedy night at Corvair Center, or you live in the west. Or you just removed ones with worn out splines. Come over to my shop.. Bring your torch.hot smiley

I do not doubt it worked so far for you, just does not work out here unless the splines are worn out.
