That is good to know. I had been considering Hughesnet.

Somebody had auction fever! I have to wonder if the buyer of the Stinger was same guy who payed over $4 million for the original Batmobile a couple years ago ? I doubt if he will ever resell it for that much.

Matt,
Suggest adding "Sold! Sold! $200k!" to thread title....

Wow, Amazing result for seller. When two bidders are determined the result can be great.

WOW exciting...bids were flying around.

But not once did they use the word Corvair.

Only did I hear/see the words Yenko Stinger.

Anybody else notice the "reserve" came off at $80,000 so it went for 2.5 times more than what the owner was wanting / expecting for it!

I did a quickie look at the photo's and one thing jumped out at me that I thought odd for a "High End" restoration.
Look at the stripes on the deck lid where they end. It appears that they are either tape, or when someone masked things off to spray the stripes, they got the edge just a wee bit crooked on all three.

They are in the auction business, not new and used car business. No different than the people that auction cars at the used car auctions, or any other auction. Do you think that the people that auction heavy equipment are heavy equipment collectors or operators? In all business's it is all about the bottom line. Make a profit, stay in business, loose money, and you are out of business. They are capitalizing on the ability of the car collectors ability to pay these higher prices for cars that they want to add to their collections. I seriously doubt that any of these buyers expect or even care about getting their investments back when they are sold. If you have enough money to buy a car for $200,000, then you have no concerns if it goes up or down in value. I doubt that most of us will ever realize the total investment that we have in our cars, when they are sold. If you are in the hobby for an investment, then you might rethink your investment strategy going forward.

Junkman,

You hit the nail on the head! These guys are an auction house business - no more and no less. They make their money by bringing willing sellers and willing buyers together, then collecting a cut from both sides. That is their business - brokering sellers and buyers together.

Like most of us, cars are a hobby for me. It is just fun and I don't really care about making money on it. I just want what I want, till I am done with it and move on to the next thing.

Some Guys are the same way about women, right?

Yeah speaking of women... I'm off to show this auction to my wife so she can stop getting on me about how much the Corvair is costing versus how much it's worth! :-)
