OT: Kudo's to the spam delete squad
Posted by: Caraholic4life ()

I just wanted to acknowledge the efforts of the moderators for being quick to respond to the recent Spammers that persist to invade our sanctuary here on the Corvair Center and weed them out effectively.

In the past week or so, I have seen "New Spam" with zero or maybe one view and clicked on the "Report" button only to get a message that the topic couldn't be found.
After refreshing my screen I noted that the Spam was gone.

Once again Thanks for your efforts, they are NOT going unnoticed.

I spot spam on occasion if I sign on before breakfast.
I do not understand why people click on OBVIOUS spam.
I suspect these are the same people who cannot understand how they get viruses on their computer.

Why aren't the repeat spammers banned? I seem to see the same users posting spam again and again. I'm guessing it's a limitation on this forum platform?

You have to click on the spam thread to report it as spam.

Luckily the spam we get seems to be advertisements only! My Virus software seldom, if ever pops up with a warning...

David-Most times I see 7 or 8 clicks before the moderators get to it.
I guess some people like to take chances!
I see no reason to click on Nike ads on a Corvair site.

I don't see anyway that clicking on a CCF thread is going to be dangerous.
Now, if they were to include a link in that thread, then I would NOT suggest clicking on it.
As stated above, I click on them to report them, BUT that is if no one, or only one has clicked on it before me, as I don't know if they reported it or not.
If 2 to 3 clicks have already been hit, I figure that it has been reported.

MOST spams do NOT get 7-8 clicks on then before being eliminated.

The majority come in fairly late in the evening, and there are several of us that tag them with-in seconds of their posting and Matt is quite quick at deleting them immediately!

I also am one that immediately reports them. I have suggested on here before to NEVER NEVER NEVER click on one of the links. Like stated above, I have no reason to click on an ad for a football jersey on this site. I also wish they could somehow be banned from here.

When I see them, I open the thread but NEVER even consider clicking on a link because I don't want to invite trouble.
When I report an item, I typically follow up with a post that simply says "Reported"

This is also why when I post something with a link, I give a description of the item, post photo's if I can, and cut and paste from the link so whoever reads the post can make a better informed decision to click on the link or not.
I also post the information in case the link stops working, folks can actually see what was being discussed, days, weeks, or even years later.
IF I post someone's phone number, I always try to remember to write out the digits so spammers are less likely to go after it, at least I hope not.
