Need car cover to fit LM - inexpensive to keep dust off in garage
Posted by: 66vairman ()
Date: December 19, 2018 06:39PM

Anybody have suggestions for an inexpensive, light weight, simple car cover just to use in the garage to keep the dust off a 65-69 Corvair body?

Looking for something at a local store or on Amazon.

Thanks.

Bought one on eBay for less than $40, maybe less, a year ago. Polyester felt lined, plastic outside. What surprised me was it was custom fit to the car. Made exactly for a LM coupe. Fits great and still holding up just fine.

Yep. go to Wallyworld or Pep Boys. Buy it by demensions. Around 183 in long by 70 in wide. I had to cut, then tape/reinforce a hole for the antenna. eye rolling smiley

If you don't need a fitted cover, you can use plastic drop cloth in your garage. On my Corvairs I use Painters Plastic from Lowe's. A 12' x 400' roll is $25. You can also get a 10' x 25' roll for $10 or less. I reinforce the antenna hole with masking tap and also mark front & back so when I take it off its easier to get it back on correctly. I make sure the car is clean before using the plastic, nor is it good for outside other than short periods. Not only can it trap moisture, but its so light the slightest breeze will blow it off.

I've seen people use old sheets as well, just something to keep off the dust. I might should use something but I like leaving everything open, it's so humid in the south I'm often wiping off mildew even without a cover, I'm sure it'd be worse covered.

I'm in humid area of Virginia, so if I leave a Corvair under a plastic cover for a long time I roll down the windows a little to keep the interior from getting mildew. However my garage is dry enough not to be a problem.

I have 2 of these, for the price they work fine. Adds a bit of cushion in case of accidental contact.

I don't see it on their website, but I was in Costco the other day, and while
walking through the automotive section I noticed they had car covers for $29.97.

I got two nice covers at Costco for around $40 each on sale. I use them outdoors. They are nice quality for the price and Costco takes back anything if you don't like them now or years from now. They are better than the Budge $50 covers at Wally World.

I picked this up in July. $29.99. Free shipping, and fits great.

For just in the garage old sheets work for me. Its the frugal cheap Corvair way.

I believe I used two full fitted sheets sewn together for mine!

Work's great keeps the dust and dirt off the corvair.

Had to cut a slit for the antenna, other than that, good to go!

Cost at dollar store was about 14.00 bucks. Yes I'm cheap!
