Stitch, Sorry I dont have any pics of a '67 lens with blue dots but they should look the same. They were not just a cosmetic thing but functional also. I assume the guy complimented you on how they looked at night ? Blue Dot lenses became popular in the '40s when taillights were small and the bulb was very close to the blue lens and when the stop lights went on, the driver behind you saw a bright lavender beam. On the vast majority of cars with large tail lights that blue dots were added to in recent years, they don't work at all, and so people didn't see the point in them. I have real 1940s glass lens dots on my '41 Pontiac and they work great.

Too much paperwork after the fact. Maybe the sarge would say, WTF?

I've driven my Pontiac all around the mid-west for decades and police have said nothing. Maybe because I also have an LED stop light above the license plate ?

Nice to hear that some are able to enjoy them.
I have always liked them myself, but have known too many people that were harassed are ticketed for having them.
Must just be a Left Coast thing.

For years you would get a ticket for improper equipment here in Virginia if you ran blue dots.

Recently, I have not heard of any issue with the hot rod crowd running them. Now, if you put them on a 2010 Honda....

Just like the old guys can run a car without a front plate and never seem to get stopped. A young guy, they can hardly make it a week with out being stopped. A sure way for police to stop a "person of interest" LEGALLY!

Same for nearly every PNP LED 1157 and 1156 marker and brake light bulb and nearly all HID "kits" that let you use a re-based HID capsule in a headlight housing that was never designed for HID. The list goes on and on. Do it until you get caught (because you probably never will). smiling smiley

Directly from the Maine State inspection manual:

(9) Reject vehicle if any stop lamp does not emit a steady, red
light.

People here in Texas are almost in awe that you maintain a 50+ vehicle, that I think they let some things 'slide' on inspections. That being said, I had an inspection where I was told... No RED lights in front, no WHITE lights aft. (Except for reverse)

My memory of Blue Dots: They look "more blue" than red. I'm sure they would confuse some color blind drivers. They are cool but....

Phil - As you probably have observed very little is now done in the way of vehicle code enforcement in Calif. Heck even the speed limits aren't enforced that much on the highways.

I doubt your blue dots will be an issue.

I'm a member of an organization in Idaho, United Street Rods of Idaho, that, among other things, lobbies the state legislature on classic car related things. We were able to get a law passed that allows blue dots in cars older than 30 years.

It's also how we got classic, hot rod, and old timer plates that have extremely low registration costs, exemptions for fenders on hot rods, and a host of other things.

Ever state should have something like this!
