Heater tube temporary repairs

Anyone used NASA/NASCAR approved silver duct tape as a temporary heater tube repair while they are saving up money to buy the thick flexable ones from Clark's?

How long did it stay together?

As long as you don't use the heater it should stay together. The heat will soften the glue and pressure inside will make it separate trying to get out. 4 psi on that area is still a bit of pressure.

Go to Home Depot buy HVAC metal duct tape. Will hold up to the elements and heat.

As long as you keep it away from the starter solenoid! Of course you needed to keep the wire reinforced hose away from the starter solenoid anyway.winking smiley

Back in the day I worked on many a Corvair with duct tape hoses.

Also have used duct tape to insulate the starter solenoid terminal from the heater hose wire!grinning smiley

Clark's C4255 solved the heater hose problem if the customer had the money. Adding the C8281 collar solved the shorting to the solenoid problem for earlies and FCs. Using the factory hose hanger (C837R reproduction) solved the shorting problem on lates.

I *think* I just might have the Clark's good stuff heater tubes up in the attic, removed from a parts car several years ago.

I just have to work up the incentive (and ace bandage tightly wrap up my mangled knee) and climb up the ladder into the attic and crawl along on the rafters until I find the dang things.....

HVAC tape may have to suffice for a while.

The partial split is close to the engine in a spot where I can get at it (semi) easily.

Not like I use the heater all that much here in New Orleans....
