Non Corvair manual shifter and added tunnel suggest that its probably a complete VW drive train.

And even though it has OD... remember the VW R &P is most likely 4.10 or 3.88

Seems to me the fellow's biggest mistake was a poor choice of VW engines. Maybe it was all he had in the corner of his garage.

Of course, building up a 160hp 2liter VW is not cheap and he probably could have repaired his 'Vair motor for much less. But it's something I have thought about myself because of the weight savings in the tail.

But they say that if you're gonna dream, dream big, so for me it was a FI 2L. out of a late 914....

That my friends is the 4 cylinder corvair that the guy at the auto parts store was adamant that his brother had......LOL grinning smiley

40 more hp.....uhhhh huh. Easier to maintain...maybe not. Definitely wouldn't sound as good as the turbo corsas!! grinning smiley
