It is possible that the rod was used for some link under the car and that it was supplied in some overlength size and cut to length for different applications. Note, I am saying "Possible", not probable.

"Did any Corvair part ever actually interchange with this many other Chvrolets? "

I can think of one good example of a part that was used not only on all Corvair's but on most GM vehicles of the era as well.......The Lug Nut. grinning smiley

There is one part, that is used on every automobile for over the past 100 years. When I was in college, I won quite a few beer bets with this knowledge. Do you know what it is? No, I am not going to give you a beer, or anything else!

A manufactured "PART" that was interchangeable between ALL, MAKES, MODELS, AND TRIM LINES ?

I would say the Chevy Bow Tie emblem is interchangeable with and correct for ALL Chevys.

"There is one part, that is used on every automobile for over the past 100 years."
If you take him literal, then said "PART" has to be universal to ALL makes, models, years, and trim levels. Not just a part that ALL have some VERSION of, but a part that can be used on any of them.

Not all vehicles made in the last 100 years had air-cleaner wingnuts. sad smiley

Can't be.
They do not all interchange, and many early automobiles had "Tillers" like a boat.

Can't be.
#1. That is NOT a "PART".
#2. Many early vehicles had solid rubber tires. No Air.
