() Date: March 23, 2023 05:07PM I have the both rear axle plates drilled up to size and the 1/2-20 x 1.5" studs installed. Wiped down assemblies and painted them to cover up storage dings and scrapes. I have open up one front hub stud holes to 0.520 and will do other tomorrow. A ways to go before the holes are right for stud installation. Tomorrow I will work with rear assemblies to get them ready for installation (backing plate position correction drilling, wheel cylinder preparation, pre-hang brake shoes). Rear axle mounting nuts and front hub studs received today. I don't have a drill or a reamer for the 0.560 stud knurls, so one has been placed on order. () Date: March 24, 2023 05:11PM Drilled up the other front hub to 0.520". Waiting on reamer to arrive so I can complete drilling task. Drilled both rear drums stud holes up to 0.520 and studs clear with ease, but clearance is like .005 on all stud outside edge. Wire brushed drums and applied Rust Fix. Painted them Satin Black just before I closed up the shop. Installed wheel cylinders on rear axle backing plates. Lubed seals with DOT 5 fluid. Used Sil-Glyde on pistons and last 3/4" of bore. Investigated how much of the rear brakes could be installed and determined none would be installed with out axle assembly on the car and cable in thebacking plete. Cable is the first thing to be assembled to its bar before anything else. But it was a good thought. Received last fittings I need to make lines for the Dual Master MC with pressure switch installation. So I am on a work hold until the needed reamer arrives. Lines will wait until components are installed. Guess I have time to work on the gate a bit. Al Georgia Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: March 25, 2023 03:37PM I'm sure you know this but there is a lot of interference fit with the knurled studs. I'm not sure how much but a lot more than a standard press fit. () Date: March 25, 2023 04:31PM Yes. Been here before with the Camaro and Corvair wheel stud replacement. I try to have 0.010 - 0.015" smaller hole size then the knurl size. Some people think a 0.002 - 0.005 is adequate, but I believe a Tire shop impact gun will spin studs installed with minimum press interference. ARP specify the following: (I stay to the higher side): For steel and cast iron hubs, the hole should be 0.006-0.016? smaller than the Knurl Diameter. For aluminum hubs, the hole should be 0.010-0.016? smaller than the Knurl Diameter. Al Georgia Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/25/2023 04:32PM by Lane66m. () Date: March 26, 2023 06:17PM I agree .002-.005 isn't enough. Joel Northlake, TX 5 Ultravans, 145 Corvairs and counting... ![]() Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: March 30, 2023 05:49PM Received the reamer Monday. I got to use it on the hubs this morning. Both hubs brought up to 0.545" for the 0.560 knurl on the studs being installed (611-345). Tried the S10 rotors and found the shank of the stud needed more room in the rotor than the suds on the spare hubs I have with 1/2-20 studs. Opened up the holes in rotors to 0.547 and rotors fit fine. Cleaned hubs and got them ready for paint. Primed them late this morning, then appled the first coat of black 1 hour later. Final coat of black 4 hours later. They are ready for the bearings. That is tomorrow's job to pack and install them. Al Georgia Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: March 31, 2023 11:19AM IThis morning I got the hub bearings packed and installed with a new hub seal. Installed hubs and secured to the front axles. Installed rotors, pad, calipers and hoses. Hoses have been left loose until lines are filled with DOT 5. Still have to flush hard lines. Got to mix a bit of concrete today, so will pick up project in morning. Al Georgia Attachments: ![]() ![]() Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: April 01, 2023 04:59PM We got the lines filled with 90% alcohol. Will blow them out tomorrow. That should break down all the Dot 3 in the lines. Then I will start the rear axle Installations. Started bending lines for the rear brakes today. Help out a friend with the build of his 140 engine which is being done in my garage. () Date: April 06, 2023 05:10AM We got the right rear axle assembly installed. Driveshaft is installed. Brake hose and hard lies are installed loosely connected. Hurt my lower back K this weekend so working this car is an agonizing process right now. Donna and my friend John are doing what can be done auto this time to help out. Donna and I will work on left side today. Al Georgia Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: April 07, 2023 05:36AM We got the left rear axle assembly installed. Driveshaft is installed. Brake hose and torque hard line installed and loosely connected. Right hard crossover line on disconnected at hose. Plugged both lines coming from splitter and injected more 91% alcohol to clean lines. Pulled plug on right side and drained lines. Applied air pressure to blow out lines. Repeated for left side. Connected lines and tightened all lines. Plug reinstalled in firewall fitting. System ready for DOT 5 Fluid. Time to install brake parts on backing plates. Al Georgia Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: April 07, 2023 12:58PM Rear brakes are assembled and brakes adjusted. Cleaning up firewall where DOT 3 fluid had seeped through gasket and rust had formed. Cleaned out DOT 3 from MC and diff switch that had been prepped for Coupe's install. Those parts are ready for install following firewall painting. Everything should be ready for brake system bleeding tomorrow. Al Georgia Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: April 08, 2023 02:51PM 68 Camaro front disc / rear drum master cylinder has been bench bled. Pressure switch bracket had to be modified to fit over the hump that the 68 Camaro has. Small amount of material had to be ground away for clearance to get holes to line up. MC with pressure switch & bracket have been installed. Front brake lines installed. Primed all lines with DOT 5 FLUID. MC lines have been installed. Tomorrow we will bleed the systems and test the car. Al Georgia Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: April 09, 2023 12:53AM Looking good. Wondering why you changed out the studs to 1/2". I just finished installing my brakes. It's still on jackstands, awaiting proper bleeding and rear brake adjustment/cleaning. I used Corvette studs. Also 7/16-20, but a quarter inch longer. () Date: April 09, 2023 06:07AM Issues with non hub centering wheels and Goodyear techs. Larger studs have less chance of them locking wheels off center. Wheels are Vision Rallye wheels non vehicle specific with larger holes than what factory wheels have.. The other reason is all hubs and axles are now standardized with my Coupe which had to have 1/2" studs due to US Mag wheel hole size. () Date: April 09, 2023 03:13PM Brakes have been bled. Pedal is OK, but I expected better after bleeding. I am going to let car set a couple of days. I will go back and do another bleed to ensure I get all air out of the systems. A lot of fluid was being moved during this bleed due the empty lines. Priming the lines helped, but did not eliminate pockets of air when lines were hooked up. Al Georgia Re: New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine Posted by:

() Date: April 09, 2023 04:45PM "Brakes have been bled. Pedal is OK, but I expected better after bleeding." What kind of calipers did you use? I am dying to go bleed mine, but have a house full of guests. According to my wife, it is considered rude to ignore your guests and work on your car. Who knew? () Date: April 09, 2023 05:36PM Clark's kit with 1993 Chevy S10 2wd single piston calipers. Once I bleed them again, I will report pedal dimensions off floor with no foot pressure and light foot pressure where resistance is felt from system. () Date: April 10, 2023 03:49PM Brakes bled again getting more air out of back lines. Installed tires/wheels and removed from Jack Stands. Console radio was not powered, so I troubleshot that issue. I found the console connector had separated partially. Reconnected connector and used ty-rap to keep it together for long term. Don't know why this column connector started coming apart, but it won't now. Took the car on a drive to break in the pads and shoes. NO more hard right swerves. A slight movement to the right attributed to road crown. Brakes are considered to be fixed again and working normally with the S10 2 wd front disc & 66 Vair rear drum configuration, using the 68 Camaro stock front disc/rear drum master cylinder. No other changes to the stock brake system configuration except to add the 68/69 brake warning switch pressure switch for low fluid warning.
